The battery should be at over 85% (or over 12.75 volts) when it's installed and the BMS is reset. If the battery has been sitting on a shelf for more than a year (check the date code or sticker), it should be charged first. If you're unsure if the battery was fully charged when it was installed, connect a 12-volt (4-amp or larger) battery charger for over 12 hours and then reset the BMS.

Resetting the BMS informs the computer that the battery is at 100% charge and has a 35-amp-hour capacity. However, if the battery is not close to full charge when the BMS is reset, it can cause issues because the BMS will assume the battery has a higher State of Charge (SoC) than it actually does, potentially affecting the accuracy of the capacity algorithm.

If the dealer recently ordered the battery from the central parts warehouse and installed it, it's likely only a couple of months old and in good condition. However, in some cases, a dealer may have a battery in stock for a year or two before anyone needs it. In such situations, it would need to be charged first.

if in doubt... install it, leave the mme "on" 24 hrs to be sure battery is at 100%, and THEN reset BMS.
