The 12 volt battery seems fairly important (getting into your car, starting the car, etc), is there an indicator, somewhere, anywhere as to the status of the battery? If not, it would seem fairly easy to add this and even a warning when it is degrading. Additionally, the access to replace it is also fairly challenging if your battery were to die in a remote location.

1) Are people regularly testing their 12V battery and if so, any specific tools to recommend?
2) Any replacement recommendations? I see some posts about the OHHMU battery vs lead acid?
3) Are people replacing these preemptively? My car is almost 3 years old with about 31K miles on it.

Thanks for the input

as VGK suggest above, just keep an eye on the 12v status on the ford.com page. I don't see preemptively replacing a battery that's giving no indications of failing. There's actually a thread on that subject. I check mine several times a week out of curiosity, it's almost always above 80% and usually 85-95%.

You could also try/use the Ford Status Widget that one of the guys on this forum developed .

I thought that widget uses the apis that could get your account banned? No?

CarScanner is what i use, with an obd2 widget. Also wish it was just in the console somewhere.

An easy way to monitor its health is with a Bluetooth voltmeter.

I'm sitting in the Lazyboy and I just launched the app on the phone. The car is outside in the parking spot.

It also logs the voltage and you can view a 24 hour period, or a 7 day period.

Here's yesterday:

What’s nice about it is getting to view static voltage without waking the vehicle and taxing it, thus getting a misleading reading.

Mine is only showing 67%
When to replace?
I'd advise checking your car 12v status the day after you charge it should be in the 80s at least.

Plugged in now, up to 75%. Does the 12V battery only charge when plugged in or would it charge of the HVB when driving?

There are several conditions under which the 12V is being charged. 1) When the car is turned fully on the charging system checks the 12V battery level and charges if it deems necessary. 2) Car is asleep and 12V SoC falls below 40%. 3) Car is actively charging the HV battery on L1 or L2 and car has deemed that charging is necessary. ??

What is the app you are using for the Bluetooth voltometer?
