I bought my car about 6 weeks ago. The first week I had the detail guys at my work wash it (nice perk) for $10. Then a few days later I washed it and applied a spray on ceramic. Then life has been super busy or raining. I finally washed it today. I’ll admit I’m 40 and until now I‘ve personally washed a car maybe 5 times in my life. Although I did live in Chicago without a car for 15 years.

This whole caring about how my car looks is hard work and time consuming!
I always thought dudes spent so much time on their cars because they didn’t want to spend time with their wives. I thought you guys just dragged it out! Little did I know.

I’m going to try to wash it at least once a week to keep the bug guts from sticking and maybe that will help. I’m scared an automatic wash will damage the paint and I’m also scared of how to get the car to move on the wash machine!

Get a good synthetic chamois to dry all the water off, after a good wash and rinse. If you have a compressed air nozzle, it will help with the drying and chamois. Then you can hit it with wax or your ceramic. Don’t forget the rubber tire shine!

If you have an ER be careful around the “X’s” on the doors. They are fragile.

Love Bug season will be here before you know it! I will update my thread on that nasty subject when they start showing up which seems to be earlier every year!

That's good advice. The badges are fragile and really prone to getting snagged on a towel or brush. Just avoid them or do them carefully at the end.

Foam Cannon/Pressure Wahser is the bee’s knees.
I’ve never heard of this. Do you think it helps get the bug guts off?

Yes - the MME needs to be careful going through automated car washes. There are plenty of threads about not taking through car washed with brushes (any car not just MME) but with MME - there are instructions on how to set it up for an automatic car wash. I have had my car for over a year now and I only once took it to car wash where they hand wash after the car goes through the brushless wash...even after I told the guy what to do (he would not let me set it up) and after he said he washed plenty of Teslas, he did not know what to do - and the car would not move - he literally sat in the car to drive it forward through the wash...grrr..

I‘m debating if I hate love bug season or caterpillar season more. Right now I’m thinking caterpillar season but that’s cause it’s happening now. I think I’m going to have to wash the front of my car at least twice a week.

Covered in bugs here in one day trips. I need to move back to southern cal where there was no discussions about bugs, lol. What bugs!

ive never owned a car before that wouldn’t make it through a car wash. New to me. ☺So far it’s worth it, but i may try it a year from now when the new love wears off.

I have a subscription to everwash. It costs $14/ month for unlimited washes. The car drives in and parks while the washing equipment moves around you. Yup it has
Brushes, but have not noticed any issues with a clean car. Take it through 2 to 3 times a week for close to a year now.
