Today my Mach E turned the parking brake on by itself, and then wouldn't turn off. It partially released, enough for me to make a three-mile trip home all under25 mph. I'm seeing many posts about 2021 and 2022s having this issue, but not 2023.

I am wondering how to manually release the parking brake since apparently the switch in the cabin is not working. I cannot find this information in the in-car manual.

I want to also say that placement of the control is BAD as I think my dog may be to blame. I thought that one pulled UP to set the brake, rather than pushing down, that the dog should have released the brake, rather than setting it.

Please get the gear shift and other critical controls OFF the center front console. Dogs and children should not have push button or turning controls within reach - and don't tell me this is not within reach of a kid in the back seat.

I didn't know how to resolve your concern other than dropping it off at a dealer.

I wanted to point out that my car engages the parking brake every single time I shift to park, or open the driver door, or turn off the vehicle. So it may not be the dog's doing.

I didn't realize that the parking brake engages every time I park, but it makes sense, given the amount of, "We'll just do this for you," things on the Mach E.

I had heard of issues on the 2021 and 2022 models, but thought they fixed it by 2023.

Is that a setting somewhere to automatically apply the PB?
Pretty sure it's just the default behavior, don't think you can change it.

There are threads about the pads sticking when parked wet, usually you'd just hear a thunk when you start moving, rare times it can take chunks off the pads. The first couple times I heard it I thought it might have been tension on the parking prawl.

Interesting...my '24 does not automatically apply the PB, I have a separate button for it.

I have the button too, maybe it's for other occasions, but the auto application seems to do a lot of the lifting. It's the rear pads that are auto applied, unless there's a separate parking break from those...

You can't manually release it, it's a motor release only (electronic parking brake). So that means it will have to be brought in for service. The usual issue is wire harness corrosion on the parking brake motor connector.

The parking brake button is on the center console for almost every modern vehicle, I know you want to blame something but that's not an issue. Perhaps this is your first vehicle with an electronic parking brake, but that's been industry standard for 10+ years. See below, it would have engaged and gotten stuck even if nothing pressed the button.

It does auto engage, you just have no idea it's happening when you shift into park (the manual button is also there for redundancy). If you open the window and listen, you can hear it when you shift into park.

There is a way to leave park brake off, can’t remember how at the moment but I do this after I washed the car and put it straight away so the pads don’t stick to the discs(rotors) overnight.

I've never noticed, but I also was not trying to... but it does make sense, given the "transmission" doesn't really have a parking pawl, or way to lock up, like a typical ICE AT. So I'll assume engaging P will trigger it, then selecting any other drive mode (R,N, etc..) will release it. That's where the manual button would come into play....if you wanted to set the PB in N, for example, you could do it manually. Makes sense... I learn something here every day, and sometimes it's even useful! ??

Unless I'm on an incline, after I place in park I manually turn the parking brake off while my foot is still on the brake pedal. Useful when the brake pads are wet.

It actually does have a parking pawl like an ICE transmission in addition to the parking brake.

It's slapped on the side of the rear motor. Someone posted a video of a techer tearing one down to show how they work, and the differences in front and back with the extras on it. I'll rummage around for the vid...

Found it.
