my ford options loan is coming due in december 2025. the residual value assigned to the car is way too high to buy the car out.

i'm starting to think about a next car. we really like the MME but i feel that out of warranty it's going to become a money pit based on the number of issues we've had so far. while this car is the devil i know, it's not likely i can hang onto it and will need to buy/lease another EV next year. if it's going to be another MME i feel like we're taking a chance on the same kinds of issues.

anyone switched or thinking about switching to any of the e-tron SUVs? wondering if it's out of the frying pan and into the fire on that one.

My Options plan is up around the same time as yours. So far I am not seeing anything I like better than the MME. I guess I could be persuaded into an F150 Lightning, but I would rather have a car than a pickup. The miniscule frunk of the 2025 is kind of a turn-off for me. Since I hate the 5 second limit, I hope they can rearrange the heat pump systems so that the ‘21-‘24 frunk tubs can be used again. Or maybe I will look for a used 2024. Or maybe I will drive 9mpg. ?‍♂?

I’ve owned and been partial to Fords since 1986. Since Ford isn’t coming out with an all electric mid/large SUV any time soon, I might jump ship over to Lucid. The Gravity is looking mighty fine right about now. Looking forward to a test drive.

VW Group is going through some turbulent times. Might be worth getting a test drive of the Audi e-tron vehicles you might be interested in just in case there's a showstopper element.
thanks for that, i wasn't aware of those problems. will do some reading.

i haven't been paying attention - i didn't know the frunk was shrinking. we hardly ever use it but did the other day and i was kind of surprised how small it was. can't be a good thing if it's getting even smaller.

I just leased a new MME. My 2022 MME GTPE was totaled in an accident this September. Happily, my wife and I got no injuries and we drove away from it. I really liked the MME, so when I found out that I could get a great deal on a lease for a 2024 MME GTPE, I got it. I am glad I did. My trips in my original MME GTPE around town, to the desert or the mountains, or to Phoenix, were all so pleasant that the short experience of a normal test drive in another comparably priced EV would not be enough to convince me that it was better. And of course, I have noticed that the 2024 is slightly better than the 2022.

right - we really like this car, but it's been in the shop so many times with unresolved and partially resolved issues that i'd really hate to be out of warranty and paying out of pocket for all these modules.

bottom line is that i just don't have faith in the quality of a random sample of an MME, and would rather like to avoid getting one that's worse than the one i have. hence the interest in other cars. i guess i'll have to go join all the other forums and see what the issues are like.

I have driven a few e-trons and think they are among the best-driving EVs on the market. To clarify Audi confusingly calls all the EVs E-Tron. The one I like was just call the E-Tron now called the Q8 E-Tron

Also, VW is the largest automotive group in the world they may slow down EV production like Ford but are not going anywhere

The other car I have spent a few weeks with as a rental is the Volvo C40 & XC40 EV. It's very nice and faster than a GTPE or Premium on the highway. The only disappointment was in the C40 I am too tall to see out the back window although I understand that Volvo now offers a digital rear view mirror (for $1000) If my MME got totaled I would likely end up with one of those.

One other thought I just switched insurance my broker said I hope you don't have a Hyundai or Kia because insurance has gotten very expensive with them because of how easy to steal they are.

Two things caught my attention.

1) Your ability to incorporate the poodle in another post. Love it.
2) Your comment on the Lightning. I have never been a truck guy, but I admit I am overly concerned about the bad HVBJB design in the MME....so I have been thinking about my next move....might be a Lightning.

The MME is famous for its poor HVBJB, any idea what the most concerning issue with the latest model Lightning would be?

The only competitor that I currently like more is the Macan EV.

But looking at current sale prices for a loaded 2024 Mach E GT at $52k and a Macan turbo at $130k….. and the Macan turbo is only slightly faster…….
I just can’t justify it.

We are almost into a full year with the third version of the HVBJB (another week, give or take) and we haven’t been hearing of nearly the kind of failure rate as with the previous two. Ford even upped the power output and the length of time before the limiter hits on the 2024s and we still haven’t heard of a lot of failures. I think that they might have gotten the 2024s right. Or maybe they will take a little more time to fail in bunches. ?‍♂?

I only own one truck and its turning radius is better than any car I have ever owned. Not sure I want an F150 given that it will be harder to park than anything I currently have, I was putting it out there as one of the more palatable EV options right now. Maybe there will be something I like next year. Probably not. I might end up pulling 2/3 of my mods out of my MME and getting a 2024 MME GT. ??

I've been wondering about this scenario my self, though I am several years down the road before I have to act. The creditor has to know this car's value, if taken back, is going to get hammered and they will have to eat that cost and other costs to get the car prepped for re-sale or they will just wholesale it. So I wonder if the creditor would be open to a negotiated buy-out that benefits both sides?

Ford doesn't negotiate. The dealership takes the vehicle back for Ford, and the car goes to auction.

Same here, getting scared as my '23 Job 1 warranty expires in about a year.
From a financial analysis perspective, buying a new vehicle vs. buying an extended warranty on a vehicle you've had for 3 years seems to be pretty simple.

Agree, but the extended warranty has a lot of exclusions and have to pay for the diagnosis plus deductibles.

It's been a pain in my past experiences with extended warranties....

In my old age, I don't need the aggravation.

I'll stick with a new EV since these Ford Mach E (and Lightnings) are first model year design and we are the beta testers....
