Very interesting.

The problem with a BEV in temperatures like this is when the battery gets SO cold it literally cannot be charged. At those temperatures it probably couldn't be charged more than a trickle and a 120v charger didn't even supply enough power to heat the battery enough to even put the full 120v charge in...

You should leave it outside at home overnight then plug it into 240v. Hook a scan tool up and see how much power actually goes into the battery. At a temp that low I bet it is almost nothing until it warms up. Would be cool to see a graph. Even better would be to plug it into the 50kW DCFC after sitting overnight. I bet it takes a long time to ramp up.

Did regen work at all on the last segment of the drive or was the battery too cold?

Exactly. He was getting no heat
Well you have to think it is a 5kW heater and it is trying to keep the battery warm enough to be usable AND heat up -35ÂşF air to a reasonable cabin temp. That's a lot to do with just 5kW of power.

Real world range impact for me (speed is hypothetical for law enforcement purposes):

I drive from Ann Arbor to Toledo every day (95% highway)
I set the cruise at 77 ish year round
I like to be comfortable (cabin @ 70 degrees in summer; 67 winter)
I get 3 mi/kWh in the summer
I get 2 mi/kWh in winter

Eheat was mostly on. But I tried many different combinations when I was trying to troubleshoot the lack of heat. For the last leg home, I had the climate system off to make sure I maxed out the range.

I had one pedal off and was in whisper so no regen was noticeable.

Overall a very interesting experiment and topic and thanks for taking the time to post in such detail. Oh, and now I don't feel so bad about living in NJ ?
There are many reasons aside from the weather to make you feel bad about living in Jersey. ??

Well normally when pressing the brake pedal it should still regen, but I bet it wasn't with the battery that cold.

Hey, at least we aren't Rhode "Island"! Seriously, who named a state with 2 landlocked edges an "island"? ?

Ever notice how you don’t have to pay to get into New Jersey, but you have to pay to escape New Jersey? ?
