I have a 2022 MME GT. All I can say was that yesterday on a fairly steep hill a truck was going slow so I had to pass. Within the 5 seconds I was going uphill at over 80mph. Unless you want to drive your car around a track the GT has so much quick acceleration that if they added a few seconds to max power you would be well over 100mph. Bottom line, the 5 second thing does not bother me at all.
Agree. I also have a 2022 MME GT. I ordered a Tesla MYP at the same time I ordered the MME. I am only going to one of them and I thought that would be the Tesla because it is faster. Now that I have driven the MME for 400 miles, I have came to a conclusion—it is fast enough!!! I plan to cancel the Tesla.

Do you have to go to the dealer to get track mode, some extra hardware?
no, it’s just an OTA update. There wasn’t a charge for track mode on the performance model three, but it was released with it included in the software. Not sure how they will do it with the Y.

There are third-party brakes and suspension upgrades for the Y if you want to go all out, but they won’t be necessary to use track mode.

If you want an electric SUV, that’s also a track car, then buy a Model Y performance. Tesla just announced track mode for the Y.
Just another Lord Elon tweet... not official.

The GTPE is more than fast enough even with the 5 second limit on the street.

On the track, the 5 second is annoying but not as annoying as an inconsistent Unbridled Extend. It doesn't enable if the conditions are not perfect.

When Elon commands, employees listen. Look at navigation waypoints, for example. It may take a while, maybe a year, but it will eventually happen. What I hate to see is Tesla’s development schedule being hijacked by one vocal fan. Especially for a feature, that only a few people will use. Hopefully they’ll charge a couple thousand dollars to recoup the development cost.

Tesla has Ohlins Road & Track available for the Model Y (and I'm jealous!). The only rationale I can surmise is that Tesla uses the same components for the Model 3 as the Model Y.

So, all I have to do is keep buying new models until they (Ford) makes the car match the advertising.

And then there was the 1400 HP MME roaring around the track and doing donuts. I guess that had the same limitations (SARCASM)

Thermal Bottleneck is the issue and limiting the max draw to 5 Sec. is Ford's BS way of mitigating the warranty life of the under engineered connections and battery. GT's are the worst or only models impacted? Rather disappointing IMO.

Maybe an aftermarket company will make a kit that replaces the physical shortcomings that necessitate the 5 sec limitation and would include reprogramming the car to eliminate it.

In the meantime, maybe Ford Motor Company could reprogram the car to use the highest power level that wouldn't require limiting and provide a button for the occasional extra boost.

BTW, to the person who said no matter what you drive, there's always a faster car (paraphrase, too lazy to go back to get the exact quote and author), I'd say you've never driven a Tesla Plaid. I've got a friend who let me drive his and I can confirm it is absolutely insane. I literally got light headed when punching it off the line. Can't imagine making a faster car that is not a road hazard - drivers could just pass out from the G-forces of that much acceleration.

I sort of agree. So that would mean operating at the Unbridled Extend power level and anything above that requires a button press.

I actually think they should change the color of the power meter bar to red above like 70% so it's clear that's an overboost. That would be very easy to do in software and would help people mentally process 100% power is supposed to be limited duration only since they are seeing red.

mmmmm, or a countdown bar showing seconds x.xx remaining 'full power' time melting away, and then recovering when you take you foot off accel.

or... a temp gauge in the actual critical location showing green/amber/red

This trim is a blast to drive in the highways freeways. Love driving it deep be it changing lanes a plenty, no problem. Just trying to get to the apex. Beat plenty of cars. Know when to fold em. Love seeing the reaction of the other drivers that know what I am doing - safely. As I ease up. They smile look at me wish they were taking that turn like I did. It's a mustang. They know.

I'll probably get the GTPE in a few years
- they get rid of the 5 sec --bring back IBSM color
-include park assist,

take my money
Ordered the GTPE back in December 2021 and received it on June 30th. Bought a cancelled order back end of February being the Premium ER RWD(IBSM) to get a little bit of an appetizer taste before my order came in. Tell you what, the Premium model was fun to drive....yeahhhhh the performance wasn't the best with those skinny tires they stock you with, but the GTPE is REALLY fun to drive(the MagneRide and performance is pretty sick for a SUV/Crossover).
"F" THE 5 SEC RULE!!!
From 0-60 is all that you want and you will beat most of them with the full performance hitting at 75-80 mph after most let off the gas anyways at that speed. Unless your on a racetrack and if so the MME GTPE is not the car for you. Yeah the 5 secs rule sucks Pony tails, but at that speed who cares. Every fast car wants to beat a Mustang from 0-60 especially the GT models ?.
So yeahhhh.... go spend dat money now!!! Go enjoy the Pony at it's fullest. Here are some pics..enjoy Pony Lovers.
And yes the IBSM is a sweet color, but the Space White metallic is even better especially the GTPE model?
Just Seyin!!

I know people here feel tricked but after getting a GT and driving it daily for the past couple of weeks, I've never felt the need for 'more power'. I'm faster than 99% of the cars off the block barring some Plaid Model S's around the area. Even when I'm at 50 mph, I can easily get upto 75 mph while feeling the torque push me in the seat. Anything more and I'm gonna end up with speeding ticket.

I totally get why people are pissed but most folks must understand that 5 seconds will easily get you from 0-70. You do not need more power for daily driving. I'd much rather have the handling and other great driving characteristics of this car over the MYP I test drove which felt numb compared to this.

Then I guess it’s racked up to an under-engineered first try product.

Again. I don’t plan on tracking, racing, etc. I think it will be more than sufficient for my needs and fun.

That said, I do think that Ford, well:
- Under engineered
- Electrically - HVBJB, BUS bars, wiring
- Cooling systems and general temperature management
- Over promised (through advertising, websites, “Performance” monikers, etc.

The cars are functional, but only within limits that owners generally do not know about, do not know to ask about (because this is a car, and who does), and shouldn’t be asked to deal with.

But, I guess the term “Buyer Beware” applies…. But if your Ford, you never want that applied to you.
Cutting corners to save money is profitable but can backfire as well, case in point!
