Does anybody think Ford will ever stop with the 5 sec limit of fun madness? I'm struggling to understand why they want to make the first and only performance driven car that's only good for 5 secs. FORD IF YOU ARE LISTENING ENOUGH IS ENOUGH YOU TAKING AWAY OUR FREE SPEECH ON THE ROAD

I wasn't aware that speeding on public roads was some sort of free speech thing. Weird.

not a chance until they redesign cooling system of motor/inverter/HVBJB/battery tray, AND
you waive battery warranty......

its a FRIGGING SUV for crissake. If you are expecting anything else, you're going to be disappointed

The current configuration is staying. Pun intended.
It was designed this way. We were tricked in to buying it and now we’re stuck with it. Short of cancelling my track days though, I’m still enjoying it quite a bit. (Or will be when my HVBJB gets replaced.)

Hmm a SUV with 5" of ground clearance, in reality it is a fat hatchback. But if we are going on the Ford marketing of it being an SUV then following those rules by Ford marketing it is also track vehicle ?

Sorry, 5 second is there so your battery connections don't melt. Not going away until the pack is redesigned for higher currents.
Question, then.
With the HVBJB recall, and the new, more robust part that has replaced the old….
I guess the question is, did they not fix the problem with a part that can handle the load? Or did the replace the HVBJB with one that’s still incapable of 5+ second runs. If the latter, seems like a really HUGE waste of an opportunity to fix a well publicized issue.

I love the recent articles:

“ Ford Focusing On Compelling EVs Over Efficiency Or Shoppers Won't Buy”

Really? 5 second limit is “Compelling”?

And on the comments of this being an SUV, and breaking the speed limit, and “crissake”, etc.
- There are plenty of performance SUV’s without a 5 second limits. Both ICE and BEV. So, that’s no justification for a 5 second limit.
- If breaking the speed limit were a legitimate excuse, all cars would be regulated to no more than the max stated limit. So, that’s no justification for a 5 second limit.
- “Crissake”???? Really? Get a grip…. Also, no justification for a 5 second limit.

Also. for 80+ years, people have been buying cars and using them for legal track days, legal drag races, legal 1/4 mile runs, and all sorts of legal fun that is somewhat limited by 5 seconds.
I don’t plan on any of those things, so I’m not terribly worried about it. But that doesn’t mean others should be restricted.

You're thinking the HVBJB is the limiting factor, it's not. The problem is outside the HVBJB, the busbars in the pack are too small to support the full motor power in the GT for more than 5ish seconds since it's an overboost of power. About 110 kW is really the continuous limit. Basically the wires and connections in the whole pack are too small, replacing the HVBJB doesn't change that. The contactors were redesigned so they would reliably meet their original specs.

As @Mach-Lee said, the main bus bars are too small. The pack’s design goes back to the pre-Mustang design intent of the car. Ford didn’t start with a blank slate but their Marketing people sure played up the “Mustang” and “performance” aspects after they decided to call the car a Mustang instead of a Focus or a Fusion or whatever it was they were going to call it. I almost wish they didn’t have so much overboost and allowed 9 or 10 seconds on less power. ?‍♂?

Then I guess it’s racked up to an under-engineered first try product.

Again. I don’t plan on tracking, racing, etc. I think it will be more than sufficient for my needs and fun.

That said, I do think that Ford, well:
- Under engineered
- Electrically - HVBJB, BUS bars, wiring
- Cooling systems and general temperature management
- Over promised (through advertising, websites, “Performance” monikers, etc.

The cars are functional, but only within limits that owners generally do not know about, do not know to ask about (because this is a car, and who does), and shouldn’t be asked to deal with.

But, I guess the term “Buyer Beware” applies…. But if your Ford, you never want that applied to you.
