The only updates that use the schedule are ones that disable the car during update. That can’t happen while your driving.
Yes..I understand. And still I have far greater success in getting updates installed and avoiding the always low 1 AM SOC on the 12V battery by having my Check Updates time setting to 0900 in the morning.

This works for me. It's way beyond time for Ford to change this default setting to something like noon everyday or something other than 1AM when you are virtually guaranteed to have a low 12V battery.

This default 1AM setting is the very definition of insanity. A close second is telling people on the Ford site and in FordPass that connecting your car to your home Wi-Fi will help downloads when we all know that is patently false.

How can you see that? And the car was plugged into my charger (not fast charging) which is supposed to keep the 12V charged no?
I can check OTA status from your VIN. Keeping it plugged in does not keep the 12V charged.

And THAT'S why I recommend changing the update time to a time when you'll be driving the car...so your 12V battery is fully recharged when you park and are offered the opportunity to "Update Now".

This 0100 in the morning update nonsense was not well thought out with just a 35Ah 12V battery.
They chose 01:00 for the inhibit updates so people wouldn't be away from home or driving the car when it tries to apply. That's really important. If they set it for noon, then people wouldn't be able to drive their car to lunch and they'd get really upset they missed their lunch break. Or worse. So I totally understand the middle of the night timeframe being best if your car is going to do something that makes it unavailable to drive for a while. Non-inhibit updates already automatically apply right after you park. You can't install 6.6.0 powertrain software while you're driving for obvious reasons.

I don't think much more can be done with the scheduling without causing a "OMG my car is locked up for 45 minutes when I need it" situation.

I would advise leaving the 01:00 time in place, and rather than setting a time while driving, just manually start the update when you get home after a drive. That's what I do.

If the 12V battery is in good shape and it getting charged up to 90%+ while driving, it should have enough power at 0100 to do the update anyway. You shouldn't really lose more than 10% battery during the evening from the time you get home to 01:00.

I hear you but that's not what we are seeing most of the time. The 12V battery SOC is the #1 reason updates don't kick off. 1 AM default time is not helping.

I see it too. Main problem is 12V doesn't get enough charging time on some vehicles due to short/infrequent use and/or excessive drains. That's the root cause.

I’m so tired of this OTA BS. I bought one of the first GT PEs and I’m still sitting here on 5.1. I am a total tech nerd, early adopter person and my last update was months and months ago. Annoying.

If you are not getting any OTA updates I suggest you leave your car with your dealer for a full day or two and have them do all updates to make it current.
Very possible you have a bad module preventing updates.
Personally, my 22 GTPE wasn't updating. Dealer replaced Gateway control module, updated software…. And now its updating on its own with every new update release since.
You should still be under warranty. So go for it.

I'm assuming the 2021's are still stuck on 6.1.0? Any updates in this regard??

I think it is way beyond time that Ford programs it to charge the 12V before installing new software if it is plugged in to L2. This whole 12V learning curve is tough on owners. Lot easier to tell owners to plug in than drive around for hours, leave it on for hours or rip panels off and charge the 12V.

Update 6.6.0 installed last night. It failed on a couple of tries, even though the car was set up properly. The difference last night was setting the headlight switch to OFF instead of AUTO.

Yeah you should get that headlight switch replaced so that doesn’t keep holding up OTAs.

Ford OTA Team told me "don't set updates to happen between 12AM and 1AM, as they implied there was a bottleneck on their end and the update would not proceed.

I told them it was their team that set it initially ?

I've gotten every OTA. The ones that require shut down, locked, lights off seem to be happier if I turn the switch to OFF.

Because there is a problem with the headlight switch that causes the headlights to stay on while parked. Ford released a new headlight switch to fix this issue. You shouldn't have to turn the headlights off, that extra step was imposed by the headlight bug.

It will also drain your 12V battery when the headlights stay on, causing a more difficult time passing 12V charge requirements as well.
