Phone as key is great. Keypad on car could also be great if you could also start the car with it.
Pretty sure the Mach-E will also have PIN-to-drive, so you could still operate it without your phone or keyfob.

I have had about 5 occasions where my phone wouldn't unlock the car because the app logged out. The key card, which the size of my driver license, is a great backup; this a major advantage Model 3 has over Models S and X. It fits in my wallet, which I always have with me (I use one of those really thin metal ones). I have a keypad between my garage and home, so have stopped carrying physical keys. When I drive my truck, I often forget and have to go back into the house to get the massive FOB.

Phone as key is great. Keypad on car could also be great if you could also start the car with it. I've seen people suggest thumbprint readers for access, but knowing how poorly they work with just a tiny bit of moisture I disagree.

This reads like someone who doesn't actually drive one. Unless you have *disabled* bluetooth, even if your app is logged out, after opening with the keycard you can start the car using the phone (don't need to place the keycard on the center console) and it will lock when you walk away if you have it set to do so. It knows your phone is there regardless of the status of the app.

Do you think your phone will require Internet/WiFi to use phone-as-a-key? My car will be parked in my underground garage where there’s no cell reception or WiFi. I’d rather not rely on the keypad every time I get in my car at home.

100%, you have 2 different pin options, one to unlock, inside one to start:)
I really have to wonder if they will implement biometric operation. With the cameras the MME uses to make sure the driver stays attentive during Driver Assist, they could have face recognition. With the microphones they could use voice recognition. These could be added via OTA later.

That would be cool.

I'm not sure about using biometrics for complete operation, but I would love the option to use them for a sort of 2-factor method. Could curb theft if someone stole the keyfob/knew the PIN/etc.

You could easily have two-factor biometrics: voice and face.

Technically that's one-factor. It's something you are. For good two-factor you need, two from the "something you are", "something you know", and the "something you have" categories.

So for valet, we have to tell the valet attendant the code to open the car and drive the car, and they’ll probably have to write it down? Seems a bit more involved than just handing over a ticket. Also a bit riskier to give that info out to strangers since presumably the code remains the same over time and you don’t change it after every valet experience. Thoughts on this?

Read the documentation, you can enter the Mach E with a pincode and then start the car using a 2nd pincode....so you don't need a key or a phone
