That makes sense. So just based on the three charges I’ve done and what the app tells me, I’m getting about 6-6.35% of battery per hour. So at this rate it would take me close to 15 hours to go from 0 to full charge.

Sound about right for the included charger?
Yes.

Yep I'm happy to report that my ChargePoint Flex in my garage gives me an average of 32 miles per hour in a 50amp breaker. I believe it uses only 80% percent of the circuit so 40amp.
40 amps? My JuiceBox 48 can deliver up to 48 amps. Set it there once to test it, now set at 30amps.

I've been using the Ford mobile charger plugged into a NEMA 14-50 50 amp wall outlet circuit.
I keep it plugged in all the time and it sits nicely on the mount and coil it up when not charging.
I wonder if I should unplug the charger when not in use?

The ChargePoint Home Flex can supply up to 50A. But it has to be set to 40A or below with a 50A breaker. I have mine set to 48A with a 60A breaker.

I haven’t unplugged it since I plugged it in for the first time almost 5 months ago! It has been reset from the breaker a few times.

IF it is hardwired. If it is plugged in, I believe that 40a is the max.

I was lazy and briefly ran the Ford mobile charger off a 30 amp circuit thinking that it’d probably.. eventually trip that 30 amp breaker which it did… twice. The breaker was a few decades old. The copper wiring is AWG 8 is plenty for the mobile charger so I swapped it out for a new 40 amp. I’ve a 60 Amp breaker available but that’d mean wiring in some serious AWG 6. BTW, our house power is right at 240V. Make sure of your wiring size and type (copper or aluminum) as that impacts wiring capacity.

If it's on a 50 amp breaker you have to tell it to draw 40A max; it might work at first but eventually you will damage a connector or overheat the lines. As far as I know it doesn't automatically detect the breakers but I don't have one so I could be wrong. So, to be able to draw 48A it needs to be on a 60A breaker. The reason for only drawing 80% of what the circuit can handle is because it is a constant load that lasts for hours at a time, which generates a lot more heat than intermittent loads like an air conditioner compressor.

Don't forget to account for losses when estimating 'delivered' electricity. From my experience, I'm averaging about 9% (+/-) loss through the EVSE, charging cord, and battery thermal management. Any calculations you make regarding current delivered to the car should consider these losses.

I know this is an old thread but just came across it. I'm using the Tesla universal wall connector and getting only about 20 miles per hour and it's a 60 amp breaker. Sigh.

I get 27 mph on a 40a charger. Is your Tesla wall connector set to 32a max? It’s not the breaker size that controls, it’s the amps sent to the car.

Not sure. I'll have to check. Thanks
