Axle clunk

Beside the noise when turning right or left, it has a noise that sounds like a bad bearing. It is most noticeable at around 55mph. I'm hoping it goes away when the axles are replaced. Anybody else notice this noise?

Looks like the noise has come back after getting the left shaft replaced, possibly the right one needs to be replaced now...

I tested mine and both sides make the sound. I am in no hurry to get it fixed, but I will get it fixed.

Breaking news.... After replacements it appears the half shafts are OK, it's the top mounts doing an impersonation of a rattle snake when truning at low speed! ?

I’m wondering if replacement of the half shafts post tsb has worked for anyone. Please keep the updates going

Just had both replaced and that seems to have done the trick. Truthfully, I am still apprehensive with every turn because I am fully expecting to hear the clunk--have lived with it for over a year. Hopefully, no one has seen it come back after the repair.

Hello, I spoke to the technician about the top mounts. He wasn't sure what you were referring to. Top mount of the motor? Anyway mine goes in for both axles next week.

I had both axles replaced per instructions from Ford to dealerships and I haven't heard the clicking noise, it's been about a week.

Mine were replaced last week and so far so good. I do have noise that is like bad bearings. More noticeable at 55mph. The tech thinks it may be the tires. Have those that have switched to summer tires noticed a decrease in noise?

The noise level is about 80db with all season tires and the fan on low auto.

well, Now I'm wondering how many people have had this come back... We put on about 1,000 miles since the warranty work and sounds like its returning. After my fiasco dealing with our local dealership. I'm concerned I will not be able to get Ford to engage and correct. Can not go another two months without the car and fighting with a Stealership

The left one was replaced and the noise returned within a couple of months. So this time they replaced both right and left, but I've only put on a few miles since Wednesday. Time will tell.

I had the left replaced, noticed the noise was still there and a couple weeks later they replaced the right. No issues so far.

So I have a question for all of you folks....
It seems to be that if the problem is fixed it just comes back again in 1000 miles or so. Are any of you in the same boat I'm in where you are knocking on the door of 36,000 miles and warranty is about to run out? If this is going to be a recurring thing, do you buy an extended warranty, or just sell the car and buy something else? Or live with the noise?

I heard the clunk in my car a few months ago, but now I cannot make it clunk. It was cold when I got it to clunk, and @markboris said his Premium did that when cold outside, but not in the summer. Has anyone else noticed an ambient temperature impact?

Mark, do you think the Steeda sway bars could have eliminated the clunk? It makes sense since the front doesn't dip down as far when I do sharp turns now. But I didn't confirm I was hearing the clunk prior to putting them in. For me I had to turn really sharp to hear it and I rarely do that.

Mike, I’m in Arizona every month and my friend with my premium no longer has the clunk because of the warm ambient temps. However I will bet when the weather returns to cold he will get it again. I don’t think it has anything to do with the sway bars but we will find out in a few months.
