Just curious if there is a better level 2 home charger than the one that came with the ME? And why? Or what is the best one for the money?

There are dozens of threads on L2 chargers. In short, many people don’t trust the longevity of the Ford Mobile charger and there are many great alternatives depending on your requirements.

One reason to upgrade also is to have 40 amps instead of the 32 amps max on the provided Ford unit. I can get about 160 miles added in about 4.5 hours at 40 amps vs about 6 hours with a 32 amp charger.

Basically comes down to do you want a smart charger or not. Some have had no issues with Ford’s mobile charger and others have had issues (overheating limiting current for the most part I believe.) so many to choose from and all seem to have their advocates. I would check with your local electric utility as they sometimes have rebates on certain brands.

How about 48 amps ? Get right to our max 11+kW charge rate.

I've got the chargepoint home flex hardwired, on a 60 amp circuit. Charges at 48amps. Very pleased so far!

About 90% of them are better than the Ford mobile charger.

Although to be fair, mobile EVSEs are a lower category than wall-mounted. They're designed to be lightweight and portable, for infrequent use. Not heavy use.

If charging many times a month at home, a sturdy wall-mount EVSE is a good idea, and save the mobile charger for infrequent backup and mobile use. Grizzl-E, ChargePoint, Juicebox, etc.

Remember 30% federal tax credit in the US again for home chargers and the electrical work.

Another vote for the Grizzl-E
Get the "Dumb" version to save some $$$ the Car can set up scheduled charge times and Ford Pass gives status etc - do dumb is good
This Grizzl-E is really beefy, a full metal box on the wall and the charging cable is really thick and robust

I use the Chargepoint as well. Don't forget to check with your local electric company. Mine gave me $$$ towards the purchase of the charger.

I'm not sure if this is true currently. There are articles posting that they extended it, but someone found that it was only for specific lower income zipcodes and it's NOT posted on the IRS site. The official IRS form/instructions/publication said it expired in 2021. There are no 2022 year forms I've found.

I'm still looking for more concrete proof before buying one.

Lower income areas is for commercial installations.

The federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers originally expired on December 31, 2021. However, the Inflation Reduction Act’s Alternative Fuel Refueling Property tax credit extends the EV charger tax incentive ten years—through December 31, 2032.

So, what does that mean for you? Essentially, if you install a home EV charging station, the tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act is 30% of the cost of hardware and installation, up to $1,000.

It does appear the IRS is taking forever to update the forms and instructions. Still not there yet. But it's supposed to be. Pretty sure it's valid for 2022 now.

I'm curious why people want a "smart" EVSE when the pony has all of the features with respect to delayed charging, etc...
