Every car makes a sound that I remember when a door is open and car running.

It’s the stopping and shifting to park that seems to be more for EVs. Do you know of any gas powered cars that do this?
yep, fords explorer , edge, most with shift knob not gear shifts. Easy to manipulate, barely touch brake and you can move in and out repair shop, dodge chevy too

last week, one of my kids want to go inside the car, and i did not pay attention, I did not see him, and the car was running, with the back door open..
I could catch him under the car.
The driver must pay attention. When you hear a door open, you stop immediately.

Maybe I was not very clear.
My son open the door, want it to go inside the car.
And i start the car. I did not notice him, and the car is showing the message: "Open door" to late.
So, the car run, and my son was right there, on the wheel.
Is it normal for a car to run with an open door?. Door open, before you start. It should not let you to do that.

Driver needs to learn to ensure all doors are closed before shifting into gear.

So, why for the driver door is different? Try to run the car, with your driver door open, and see what is happening..
I mean, if you are drunk, and forgot to close the door, the car will stop?

First, this safety feature is across many vehicles, not just Mach-Es. It seems pretty obvious, you don't want a vehicle driving without the driver (driver gets out, vehicle drives without them)...

I was thinking we are in 2025. No need to teach the kids, but have a much more safe car.
It is just a line in the programing.
No run with open doors, frunk, trunk, or charging port.
What is wrong with this?
And if one of those are fake signals, you should have the choice to bypass.
What is the purpose of getting a message, like charging port open, and i need to stop the car, anyway? You should not let me to run the car, in the first place.

A simple line in machine code. A much more safe car.

Dash warns me anytime any door is open, warns me
If I open the drivers car door with car still on, it warns me. Not sure what the issue is.

I am glad your son did not get injured. I understand what you are suggesting for making car safer and it does sound simple. However, as a retired software engineer, I can tell you that software changes are rarely ever simple. Especially one like this.

I was curious about this so I tried a few things. This is what I learned:
  1. With back door open you can start car, put it in D and move the car. I could not open the door while in D, I'd have to have an assistant do that. But, as you have reported, it keeps moving.
  2. With car started, not moving, and in D, opening driver's door automatically puts car in Park.
  3. With car started and moving, opening driver's door does nothing. Car keeps moving.
#3 was what I was really curious about. Ford puts car in Park when not moving, but I seriously doubt you want your car to go into Park when it is moving. The car would need to apply brakes. Not so simple. I imagine it could be done. Still, I'm not sure people would really want this.

Even if such a safety feature did get added, it would only stop the car if the kid successfully opened the door. A moving car is dangerous. Kids need to understand that. Driving a car when kids are nearby is dangerous. Drivers need to understand that.

You’re trying to solve for a fringe issue and may create other safety problems in the meantime.

Ford (and every other car manufacturer currently) chose to go with the warning light and sound when a car door is opened.

It’s the same for when someone unbuckles their seatbelt.

For the kid opening the door issue you’re trying to solve- they already have child locks that prevent kids from opening the doors.

No need to have a kill switch to stop your car in addition to the multiple safety existing features.
