This happen to me when the car parked outside and hot.....
My center screen failed the first month I had it .... consistently failed if I parked facing south the sun hitting the back of screen raised screen temp to about 150F, and screen would go dark until after restart after temp came down.

I had dealer replace screen.... field engr said they had *some bad chips failing at high temps* and I also added a (modified) AOSK screen tray/phone holder which keeps the sun from hitting directly. no problems since.

Thank you. This is very helpful. The screen issue did not happen to a Select. It only happens to my Premium. Bad chip is a very good explanation. Ford EV team left a voicemail. I should be able to get this resolved soon.

screen is the same with Select and Premium....

I think the early VINs had some non-auto-grade chips in displays as they had supply line problems.... some are taking longer than others to fail in heat. just my guess. The fix is to replace the entire screen. It was a full day in the shop with a Ford Field Engr showing my Dealership eTech the process.

I do not know exactly how it was diagnosed. But they did tell me that they’ve seen a rash of APIM failures lately across different models.
I, too, will be getting a new APIM. They were not able to actually diagnose the issue, because the tech got locked out of APIM somehow.

How long did they tell you the wait time is on your APIM? For my car they expected it this morning, but there was an "unforeseen" delay.

They called me today and told me they just received it. Maybe I got yours? ?

Happened to me for the first time yesterday leaving from work. I thought it moght be overheating of the center screen, but I had been using a sunshade, so when I felt it, and it was not hot.
Mine's done this 2 more times now. Both times when starting up in the morning, where heat was definitely not an issue.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Mine has done this a couple of times now. Weirdly, my 15 Fusion had the same issue. I know from that experience that the way to clear it is to stop and shift into reverse long enough for the rear camera to start. Shifting back to D returns the display to normal.

I expect no real resolution to be honest either. If anything having it in for 3 visits does give me a lemon option if I get to irritated with it. Latest new issue is my first call doesn't seem to allow me to hear the person I call, have to hang up and recall and all is well...
Did your get the screen issue resolved?

No, they said it needs a new screen and would have it in few days. It's been 10 working days now and no responses to my messages or text. Pretty consistent with my prior service experiences at Woody Anderson in Huntsville.

It sounds more promising than my MME. I dropped the car off on Saturday with 14 days estimated wait time just for the car to be looked at. The dealer was very helpful and worked on the car on Monday. I got a call today that the car was ready to be picked up. The dealer contacted technician at Ford. Ford told the dealer that they are aware of the issue and there is NO FIX to the problem. They recommend using sunshade for the front windshield and tinting the front windows with ceramic film. I told the dealer that I have been using reflective sunshades on the windshield and front windows and also using screen cover. Reflective sunshades are definitely better heat protection than ceramic tints. Dealer said they saw the pictures of my screen cover but they can only do what manufacturer told them to do. The black screen even happened when the car was in a garage in the morning. Garage temperature was around 80-90F.

@Ford Motor Company
Was I just told that Ford will not fix the car under warranty? I have been seeing recalls from several car manufacturers due to back up camera malfunction. It is definitely a safety concerns for sure.

@Ghost Ryder At least Tesla hand out "free screen cover". I was told to go tints the windows in order to have a car operated properly.

I’m now 10 days on the new APIM. So far, so good.
