A new development in troubleshooting this problem.

Tonight I was driving along, BlueCruise hands free working great, when all of a sudden my center screen froze up. CarPlay music stopped, no response anywhere. Oh well, happens. Did the down and out restart while driving. As soon as the center screen went black to restart, BlueCruise hands free went away and reverted back to hands on. As soon as the center screen booted back up, hands free came back.

So there is clearly some continuous check happening with Sync/APIM, not just when you first turn on BlueCruise. I think this further points to the map, because that would need to be constantly polled. So maybe on the times it doesn’t go hands free, it can’t check the map data on the APIM for some reason.

Agree. I do think the GPS is required for BCHF to function.

Have your folks tried resetting SYNC this way when BlueCruise isn't working? Does that fix it?

The GPS and what ever process is checking to see that your GPS coordinates are in a blue zone. I thin the latter is what’s failing in these situations.

You read my mind! That will be the first thing I try next time it won’t go hands free.

BlueCruise not working since July 17 but since ICC works I didn’t go to see if dealer could fix it. If I had paid for the subscription, I would have it fixed. For me it’s not needed.

I just got a power-up related to BlueCruise so maybe that fixed it. I’ll test this tomorrow.

edit: the power-up fixed my issue. BlueCruise now works but I seem to ping-pong between the white lines and don’t trust it. When I’m behind a slower car and turn off onto an exit ramp, BlueCruise thinks I’m still going at 65 mph and takes off like a rocket. Scary!!

So this BC failure also happened to me last week. I also noticed that my XM radio was “searching” but not connecting. I tried rebooting the display screen a couple of times but that did not help. As others have noted, everything returned to normal a few hours later after the car sat in my garage. I wonder if it does have something to do with a satellite connection?

BlueCruise lately has become highly unstable for me. Far more trouble now than it is worth.

Perhaps that will change someday, but I will not be holding my breath. Meanwhile, I will be holding the steering wheel with my actual hands. Like an animal.

That does not fix it for me.
Agreed. Drove from Rhode Island to New Hampshire today. BC worked flawlessly all the way north. Then upon coming home, couldn’t get it to engage. Tried resetting the sync, no change. I have noticed that waiting until the notification from the car that I’m on a BC road helps with more consistent activation but it still doesn’t always want to work. I will say overtime it’s gotten less reliable. I feel like when I first got it, it worked 90% of the time. Now more like 50-60%.

I’m bummed to hear this. I haven’t had BC disappear on me for many weeks now. I was becoming optimistic that maybe Ford fixed it.

So my hands-free hasn't worked in over a month.

While reviewing all settings just now inside the car I did see this note on the "About SYNC" tab. It says at the bottom:
Hands-Free Driving Mode available through 10-09-2022

What makes it strange is I lost the Hands-Free way before 10-09. Anyone else have this message on theirs?

Just now I got notification my hands free blue cruise was just activated , but I have the date as you. I’ll test it tomorrow, but so far after two months of ownership I’ve never seen hands free activate.

So here’s where Ford just gets confusing. That’s Day-Month-Year. So that’s why you lost hands free on September 10th.
