Just got my '23 MachE and drove to a remote part of upstate NY, hoping to charge over the weekend on a regular 110v extension cord. After it didn't work on a cord that was supplied to me, I finally realized that the extension cord has to be grounded. New cord - no problem. The charging parts that come with the car work fine.

I do not recommend using a standard 100ft "orange cord" for charging. Way too much draw for that. If you need to use an extension cord, it should be at least a 10gauge and no more than 50ft or so.

EvolveNY and Electrify America have more charging stations upstate than you would think. Be sure to check plugshare!

---

When i use a 110v i get around 3-5 miles per hour. So you may be stuck charging for a while but it gets the job done if you have enough time, or don't drive much.

Back when i was stuck on 110v I really just used to get me back to 30-50 miles in the car and that would be enough to get to the nearest charging station.

Extension cords should be avoided for car charging if at all possible .... definitely need to be grounded, as short as possible, and preferably 10gauge (super heavy duty) wire. check out https://www.badassextensioncords.com if you MUST use an extension cord, and filter on 10/3 gauge

Also, please please please use a 12g cord. The car will pull 15amps but if the cord isn’t rated for that, it will get hot and be a fire hazard.
you can get by with 12ga.... but plug ends will get really hot after a couple hours, especially the ones with built-in lights to show live circuit.

much better to get 10ga since they have lower resistance, and less heat will build up.
