I love so many features of this car but the cross-traffic alert and collision avoidance has saved damage.
I consider myself very aware as also a motorcyclist however, most major save was when I had returned to my car and was reversing from a parking slot using the 360 camera but had forgotten I'd parked next to a concrete support pillar. Suddenly the car slammed on the brakes. When I looked up the front wing was right next to the pillar!! I would have done serious damage if the car hadn't braked. Yes I should have seen it in the 360 camera but was paying more attention to what was behind.
It also stopped when a friends pet ran behind when I was reversing. Plus several times the cross-traffic alert has been great when reversing out of my blind drive.

I was backing out of a tight parking space and aware of a curb and a tree behind me. I was moving very slowly while monitoring with the backup camera. When it appeared that I had angled the car enough to clear the tree, I started moving a bit faster.

Then wham! The car slammed to a stop.

Certain I had hit the tree, I got out of the car cursing and berating myself for being so stupid. Though I knew I couldn't have done too much damage at the speed I was going, I was anticipating a costly repair.

Much to my surprise I couldn't find even the slightest damage. At firs,t I thought the wheels must have hit the curb, saving me from the tree. But as I drove away, I realized that I was close enough to the tree that the collision avoidance system thought that I was going to hit the tree and activated. A bit unsettling at the time, but good to know the technology had my back.

Awesome except when you have a bike on the back! Prior to the latest OTA update, Sync startup lag was so bad I often couldn't turn off the parking assist and I had to go super slow backing up. Even then sometimes it would hit the brakes.

Otherwise, I agree. Great feature!

So I have a steep driveway, and its about 2.5 cars wide. The MME parks in the garage then I have a full size truck, and my wife's Acadia, and I really don't want to park anything on the street. So I concocted the following parking strategy (picture was testing the theory before getting my MME and using my brothers Tesla):

Overall it works pretty good, but that single lane approach to the garage, especially backing in (my EVSE is on the right side next to the breaker) I have found the car de-powers and ultimately comes to a stop as I approach (within a few inches) the bumpers of my other cars. At first I was like WTF is going on here, and thought something was broke. Then a little thought about some of the safety systems and I appreciate that it is so cautious it de-powers the car as I approach being so close to my other vehicles. Literally I can have the pedal to the floor and it will inch back or even come to a stop depending on the trajectory, then once I get past the close proximity power is slowly restored. Very cool system!

Is there a setting to apply the breaks. I reversed close to objects(about 10-15 inches close) but the car did not brake, I did.

In my experience the car isn't apply breaks, it is de-powering the car. I use One pedal driving, with auto-hold of course, so I think those systems are playing into my experience from my understanding.

Definitely applies brakes and will assist emergency braking. Check collision avoidance is turned on?

I've had the reverse break saved me couple of times. Has anyone had the car accelerate or move to the side to avoid another car hitting you from the rear or the car decelerating to not hit the car in front of you?

It's called Reverse Braking Assist and it most certainly applies the brakes. Like SLAMS them on.

And yes, if you are using Adaptive Cruise, it will slow, then stop, before hitting the car in front of you.

I wish I had realized that’s what it was when I hit the gas anyway. As people were behind me I thought I had hit a curb but then I overroad it That’s when I had my first accident with car only 2 months old Hit a steel bicycle stand. Is there a class on all the features of the car??

There's the manual, which can be downloaded.

And there are numerous videos on the Ford website. Here's Reverse Brake Assist - https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/more-vehicle-topics/brakes/what-is-reverse-brake-assist/

Note the car lurch when the brakes are hit fully.

It’s amazing how well the collision avoidance has protected the black-eyed Susans when backing into our drive.

I believe I had to step on the brake pedal to cancel the automatic braking when I experienced a driver who pulled out in front of me (at 90 degree angle) While pointing at my GB MME! Only time that the car has slid on drive pavement. Missed by less than a foot.

My son hit the basketball hoop in our driveway while backing out with the Mach-E Select last June... not a huge dent by any means, but vertical across bumper and back hatch. He was leaving at 5:20am to go off weight lifting. $6,500 later, $500 deductible, and it was fixed. Lucky for us, a used taillight was found with another MME at the collision center that was unfortunately totaled. Otherwise the taillight was a "could be months before we get one" part.

Reverse Brake Assist is well worth it! I have it on an Explorer and the other Mach-E GT PE.
