Hereby a nice side to side photo I made this weekend. The EV6 does not look bad, I do like the rear but the front is a bit shorter. The longer hood does give the Mach E a more muscular appearance.

Agreed. I like the looks of the EV6 overall, but seeing the two next to each other, the hood of the EV6 looks stunted.

Sure……. If you take a side shot on a cloudy day from a long ways away and you squint……… it doesn’t look terrible.

Kinda like how anyone looks good in a bikini……..from 100 yards away. ?

I just went for an errand in the wife's EV6 Wind/Tech AWD, 5 months into Rt 1 AWD ownership. Before the pricing and tax credit roller coaster, these were almost identical in price, equipment, and rated power.

Here are some quick impressions.

Advantage EV6:
  • more responsive acceleration and steering. immediately noticeable. Probably a lot due to lighter weight and shorter hood.
  • better isolation from the road: less audible roar in the cabin, less vibration from road texture, less bounce/jar from bumps
  • more accommodating back seat for toddler; center console does not intrude as far into rear seat foot space and rear seat knee room is better
  • self-reported efficiency is incredible. Her last 7 drives ranged from 4.3 through 4.8 mi/kwh. We work in the same building and have the same commute; I get 4.1 mi/kwh in the best conditions and average 3.7
Advantage MME:
  • much more supportive driver seat for slender frame (5'9, around 160), especially laterally. When I had the Ioniq 5 I noticed this as well; I slide around in the EV6 seat, even at normal driving speed
  • Nearly every interior surface feels better and arguably looks nicer
  • better overall infotainment ergonomics, mostly because the screen is closer to the driver, and maybe somewhat because the larger size allows for larger onscreen controls in some cases. The portrait orientation and permanent climate controls compromise some of the size advantage though
  • more ooh/ahh/theater factor, especially for the ears: bassy pings and pongs, warmer propulsion sound for those who like it; longer hood and greater mass lend a sense of what a certain youtuber would call an imperial feeling. It's arguably more masculine and boss.
For most unbiased shoppers at a car show, the Mach E will make a much better first impression; even if you don't prefer the looks (and most probably will) the perceived interior quality is significantly better with more soft, rich feeling surfaces and shapes. For someone who is okay with less supportive seats and might find value in a bit more performance and fore/aft space, the EV6 is definitely worth a test drive.

Both are fantastic.

I've owned both. Ordered the MME January 2022, then grabbed an EV^ when I found one that was not crazily overpriced that February. Sold the EV6 when the MME arrived in October.

Overall, I'd agree with CR that it would be a close call when deciding between the two.

Biggest factors for me:
  • The EV6 feels bigger and heavier. Brakes were strong but you could feel them working to stop all that mass. MME feels nimbler and more maneuverable.
  • EV6 audio is significantly underpowered and prone to failure. MME audio won't blow you away, but it does the job.
  • MME ride is stiffer bordering on harsh. EV6 was very smooth and handled a long drive on unpaved roads with little effect.
  • EV6 fast charging was a bonus, but most of the time the difference in the MME isn't noticeable.
  • I do miss the multiple levels of regeneration & paddle shifters from the EV6.
  • I didn't use the sunroof in the EV6 much, but I also didn't really want a glass roof. I put in a mesh shade and hardly notice it's there.
  • Kia's app did more and offered more information. EV6 has way better information on charging status.

CR is such a waste.

I remember back when I worked at an appliance and electronics store years ago.

CR shoppers were the worst.

“I want this model, CR says it’s the best.”

……..that model is last years, it’s discontinued. But here is the identical one they just changed the model number.

“CR doesn’t like that one as much.”

…….. it’s identical to the one they liked last year.

My favorite was when they ranked two identical big screen TVs significantly differently. Literally the same model but one had a better speaker system and anti glare screen…….. it was ranked lower for sound and glare.

When you survey your readers after telling them what to buy……. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
I’m one of those CR shoppers. I only ignored the CR advice once when buying a car and should have listened to them. The car (a VW) had exactly the problems identified by CR.

Sometimes they’re right! As proven by your sample size of 1.

You can get a lot of right advise that is free on the www also. Free advise from people that live EV's not just a report for one source that reports everything including the kitchen sink and thinks we should pay for such advise.

I think the people that don't like CR are many times the ones that have the inferior brand.

Just sayin.................

With my purchases, CR is usually spot on.

Perfect example of how CR becomes an echo chamber.

Well if you do purchase a product that holds up well and is confirmed by CR, I guess that could sound like an echo I guess. ?

CR is flawed and has biases like everyone else. It’s one voice out of many.

When you say "everyone else", are you suggesting other Companies that test products or individuals such as your self?

Which is fine until the quality of said product manufacturers changes over the last few decades, but the opinions of the readers does not. Then the echo chamber becomes less accurate as time goes on.

Simple example- Japanese cars were way more reliable than American cars in the 80s and early 90s. That isn’t the case anymore.

But many people who got tired of hearing the cars they like suck stopped reading CR a long time ago. And the people who like hearing “your car choice is great” kept reading.

So while the reality has shifted, the results and biases of the readers are still there.

Echo chambers exist everywhere, but it helps to know what the sample group is. Asking a group of people in Wisconsin who the greatest NFL team is and I think you can guess the result.

I’m referring to those who review products (they can be companies or individuals). Customers like you and I have our own opinions. But we are amateurs and our opinions don’t influence many people.
