My family takes an annual vacation to drive up from Chicago to Door County, WI. There are a few public chargers up there, but the closest fast charging is Milwaukee, I think, which is still like 3+ hours away from Door County. Looking for rental houses, we were coming up with nothing that had 240v charging available for overnight charging. So, what did we decide to do? Well, we bought a vacation house up there and had a 240v charger installed, so we never have to worry about charging up there again.

We eventually would have bought a place there anyway (probably 5-10 years from now). The Mach-e purchase just kicked us into gear on it. ?

We also had a chance to put our range anxiety to the test (215 miles door to door). Couldn't bring myself to try going all the way without charging. EA DC Fast Charging in Milwaukee with Plug and Charge was awesome and flawless.

With the way house prices are moving your ā€˜accessoryā€™ will pay for both itself and the Mach-E in no time - congratulations!

And I thought I was overdoing it buying my own detail supplies (dual action buffer, chemicals, pastes, etc) and then learning to do vinyl striping. You certainly have went further over the edge than I.

Yeah since this is our 3rd BEV and 4th plugin anything wacky or odd like that would have been purchased already prior to the Mach-E.

Saying that I'm often accused of showing "cable porn" so yeah: 3 EVSE's and a 50 ft J1772 extension cable (all purchased years prior to the Mach-E, however).

Alas, nothing as extreme as a vacation house.

Indeed we will be. Just waiting on the inspection before we can start renting it out. I'm definitely making sure to advertise the EV charging, as there is certainly a market for it. ?

Not a bad idea. We should setup a private mach e charging network
Actually that is kind of what plugshare is--well not the "private" part.

When it started it was a way for people with Level-2 chargers to share their chargers for other EV drivers in the event that they are stranded or need a charge in a specific area.

Even now you can turn on "residential locations" to see where people generously share their Level-2:

Craziest thing? Chased they guy that rear-ended us in a hit & run. Definitely not the best idea -- he could have been dangerous or could have caused another accident. But in the moment, I just did it.

PlugShare proved to be invaluable on the trip up to the place we just bought and while waiting for our electrician to find the time to install our EVSE. That app is terrific! Not sure I am willing to put the location on there to allow folks to charge when they need to pop by for a "fill up," but I definitely have no problem making it available to renters.

Iā€™m not up for a vacation home but it does make me start thinking, what kind of investment would it take to just install an EA or CP DCFC where I need it? Maybe Iā€™ll inquire. Would be fun to see the contract. Iā€™m guessing that leasing some parking lot space with a big box store wouldnā€™t be too hard - more walk-in traffic for them.
