What's the temp where you are?
It was 60s yesterday. I should note I had the sound when it was cold on a trip back from my in laws when it was in the 40s. Didn't seem to have a temp dependency for mine. I would assume Louvers needing to be open could increase turbulence though and make it more noticeable.

I'm getting a lot of rattle from cross wind. It only appears when cross wind is above ~10mph and at highway speed. Lower speed I don't hear it and with head/tail winds I don't hear it, just with moderate cross winds. It always appears on the side of the car which the cross wind is hitting.

At first I thought that it was the badging, but it appears to be fastened down really well.

Anyone have any ideas or experienced this?

UPDATE on my rattle. Below is the video BEFORE I took it in to the Ford dealer to have "repaired". I usually got the noise ANY time I hit 55 mph or higher. The service guy told me that the tech did 2 things: A). They removed all of the stickers they could find on the shocks and a couple others. B). They put it up on the lift and he said "The underbelly plate seemed to rattle when they tapped it with their fingers. They inserted some rubber spacers and they took out the old bolts and inserted new SHORTER bolts so the plate would really be locked in." (Im not the guy who is going to try stuff on his own, Im not going to crawl under the car, etc...so Im not 100% sure what he was talking about)
On my drive home, there was a lot of traffic so I could only get to about 65 mph for a few seconds at a time. I have driven it one other time and was able to hit 70-75 mph at night, no wind. I have not heard the noise in any case. It seems to be resolved. I will drive my normal daily drive tomorrow where I know I can really test it out, but I think they fixed it.

I looked but didn’t see if anyone posted this video or tried to fix this;

I also noticed when pulling the plastic cover off above that piece and the 12v battery that it also rattles like crazy when I tap on it.

Dassa me. And tightening it up resolved my rattle.

Edit: Or not.. :-(

My noise has not reappeared, knock on wood. I’m thinking I’m good.

Looks like I'll be getting under the car for the next go-round. Thanks for the explanation your tech shared with you.

Good luck! I’m not that guy so I just used the warranty and they had it back next day. If you want to call, National City Ford (San Diego-mile of cars). Renado was the check in guy at service. Maybe he could find more details from the mechanic, but I was taking notes when they explained the solution that day. Anyway, I have not heard it since.

Hi there,
this thread had been very helpful so far. I picked up my MME GT PE 4 weeks ago and I’m experiencing the exact same noise like the one in your video. Never had it in my previous MME AWD ER.
Any updates if the noise is still gone? Was there a similar solution for the others owners having that issue?
Cheers
Paul

Honestly, I think it's still there. I either drive with the radio too loud or I just got used to it. I haven't put any more effort into it. Maybe others have and they can comment.

mine also still comes back...I think everything we've looked at has been a false positive.

I'm leaning towards another user's experience that it's the lower wind tray on the bottom rattling when the active grill shutters are open and that reverbs through the dash.

Too bad…but thanks for your reply.
I’m not sure it has something to do with the active grill shutters open.
I just tried to “simulate” the wind coming from the side with my compressor. I literally blew air in every hole and panel gap I’ve found with my wife sitting in the car to hear if the rattle appears. Car was running and shutters were open. Absolutely no rattle.
Guess my next step will be taking it to the dealership to see what they got to say.
I absolutely love my GT PE and this needs to be fixed and I’m sure it can be found and fixed.

Same rattle on my GT. I read every page of this post hoping to get to the end and be surprised with a solution... Sad face that we don't know what causes this and it's in so many of our cars.
