I would assume the pack was under that, but didn't being a tablet to check.

Completely anecdotal / unscientific, but I'm happy with my first DCFC session after the update. Temps were upper 40s. Peak was 163kw for a moment.

I wonder if preconditioning even works when it’s 65f outside….I will car scan that in 3 months…lol
Looks like it does because my curve was no longer 100kw -> 80%
I didn't precondition the last time I went to the same charger last week. My curve wen't 100kw -> 50% -> 90kw'ish -> 65% -> 80kwish ->80%.

Did a little test. I set the in car Nav to DCFC and there’s a 30 minute time limit. The inlet temp reaches 108 degrees for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes it went down to 75ish degrees. The charge power limit went from 89 to 144.8. This will differentially help with DCFC.

I believe that was added with OTA 3.6.1.

Did you do a control test without inputing the destination? If your turn on the car, and turn off HVAC while plugged in, it will heat the battery like that without a nav destination.

If you use preconditioning on 120V it will heat the battery for about 30 mins with only 1.1 kW of heat. Battery will only warm up about 4ºC. Better than nothing but not by much. I did a test with that previously.
Hey there Lee. Just to confirm, I can start the car while plugged into my 240v EVSE, ensure HVAC is turned off, and it will precondition my battery for cold temp driving? If so, this is huge because scheduled departures haven't worked since 4.1.2. and there's no other resolution in sight as far as I can tell. This is crucial for those of us in colder climates as you know.

Thanks!

Yes, that’s what I call Strategy H here: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mach-lees-cold-weather-charging-strategies.24548/

For the others on this thread, I also added DCFC preconditioning strategies to the above link as well.

I just want to clarify from the comments in here, if you precondition your MME to warm the cabin, you are not preconditioning the battery as well? Is it one or the other while preconditioning?

I understand not to run HVAC on the way to the DCFS, but I don't understand why I cannot precondition cabin temp.

If you set a departure time, it will precondition the battery first and then warm the cabin. So you can warm the cabin and precondition. But remote starting to warm the cabin will not precondition.

I don't think you need to turn off HVAC on the way to a DCFC station, but turning off E-Heat will allow more energy to be used for heating the battery. If you leave E-Heat on, preconditioning will still occur but obviously it has to share the same heater that is heating the cabin so it might not precondition as much as it could.

Is summer DCFC pre conditioning a thing?

Does the pack get too warm to DCFC optimally and require cooling prior to charging?

That is the scenario I am more likely to run into as my DCFC sessions are almost always in warm to hot to extremely hot weather.

A DCFC session after driving 75 for 2 hours in 98+ degree heat.

If you run the heater while you're in the process of using a DC fast charger, the only thing that goes wrong is it takes longer to charge, right? You're not doing damage to any components?

The best way to use DC fast charging is to leave the car on, heaters off?
