Oh sure, but I don't think my HVBJB failure was due to a 12V issue. My 12V has always seemed to be pretty happy.
Odds are no. On the other hand, there is an abundance of 12 volt battery ousts around this place.

I don't think you can make the assumption that the HVBJB failures we've seen are all due to 12V battery problems.
I'm not making that assumption at all.

My observations on the HVBJB problems are speculation... looking for a common thread. I haven't seen any real 'news' from Ford, but my best guess is that the high current of DCFC certainly might be hard on the relay/contacts that start and stop the charge....

And a related issue at the next most high current connection is the HV to DCDC and DCDC to that bus where this OP found a loose connection. That connection has to handle thermal stress of 0-160amps of current on and off. The nut may or may not have been assembled at correct torque, or repeat thermal cycling loosened it.

High current and thermal cycling present a much different challenge than typical purely mechanical or low-amp electrical connectors.

We could all be wrong and it could be bad parts or a software bug....

this thread does not appear to be software related.... The OP found the loose nut.
What's unknown in this case is whether it was a one-off assembly error, or an error that might have affected *some* VINs in a production run, or if it potentially affects ALL.

Hey who you calling a loose nut?!!?

Updated: Just got a call from the dealer it was towed to " It will be at least a week before I can even look at it" Ok cool give me a loaner... They don't have loaners.... Ok a free rental car... they won't be able to get one until later today...

I'm trying to decide whether or not I should go through the hassle to check that nut when my 2022 gets here later this year. Also I'll probably cut holes in the cover over the LVB connection points.

That really sucks. I would be pretty pissed off. They should make it right. Maybe find another dealer that can look at it sooner?

better a 'loose nut' than a 'dead nut'

I'd just ask the Dealer to throw a charger on the battery until you go pick it up.
Then find another Dealership to work with that will turn in a FSE report to Ford to log the issue and research possible production run your VIN was in.

It's *probably not* a general issue for all, but it might have been a badly calibrated torque wrench affecting others.

If you DM Ford through this forum (as I did in both my cases), they typically put you in touch with a 'customer experience' representative. They covered my rental car costs for the first stranding, including fuel costs. This time around my dealership lined me up with a rental. If your dealership falls through, you could try to go that route.

I share your frustration. I'm coming up on two weeks since my car was stranded, and my rental car sucks.

Sorry you had to join the club. Happened to me twice, but never while driving. If you don’t get a 12V battery warning, tell your dealer’s service tech to check the high voltage components. The high voltage battery junction box (HVBJB) is a common failure point and has been impacting a lot of owners. My car is in the shop getting it replaced now.

With the relatively high volume of similar issues posted on this forum, I hope @Ford Motor Company is looking into a potential recall.
Mine is in for the voltage box as well.

I worry about the likelihood that the HVBJB they're replacing is merely the same part they used in the initial vehicle assembly. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this part is more reliable than the original. (not assuming that, of course)

Anyone who has had these problems should be reporting them to NHTSA. Here's the link, really it takes much less than writing a reply on these threads on the forum. Be sure to describe safety related situations such as when your car dies in the middle of a road going 50+mph.

I got rid of my 2018 F-150 because they couldn't get the tailgate to stop dropping on its own (it had the remote release option) and because the suspension went to shit and no one would fix it (Shelby Super Snake but the lowered one). I was reluctant to even buy another Ford because of this but I really liked the Mach E. This is definitely my last Ford if this keeps up.
