So my 6 month old Mach E GT PE (with BlueCruise, etc.) got a rock chip near the bottom in front of driver position and this weekend it decided to crack and spread nearly 3 feet (and still growing). I wish now I had added some kind of glass sealer product but didn't think it needed it. Lesson learned there. Anyway, time to call my insurance company, which uses Safelight. Based on prior experience with another car, I think I will have to pay a $200 deductible and they will cover rest. But I am pretty sure it will not be a Ford part. Instead they will call it OEE or aftermarket (OEM compatible, or something similar). The last time I went through this it was for a BMW M4, which also has cameras (but less tech than the Mach E). When I asked about OEM replacement, they said I could request it but would have to pay the difference, which meant my cost would have gone from $200 to $700. I went with OEE/aftermarket since by now that car is older. But it has been fine.

So with all the tech in our Mach E windshields (laminated SoundScreen iRR coated wind screen right...), should I insist on the OEM windshield, or maybe that is the only options since it is so new.... Then, can a company like safelite recalibrate this properly... I am an avid user of Blue Cruise and do not want to screw that tech up. Any thoughts of experience with this?

I have not seen any reports of aftermarket windshields being available for the MME.

Safelite can calibrate the camera.

Ok, good to know (makes decision easier). Thanks!

I think somebody on here reported that Safelite used Ford glass when theirs was replaced.

When I had Safelite replace my windshield, I asked about this... I was told that insurance will let them replace with OEM glass if I request it, and as long as the model year is from last year or the current year.

I had the glass replaced at the end of 2022 so my 2021 qualified, but barely.

I didn't ask what they would have used if I hadn't asked, or if the vehicle was older... but they did note on the work order that OEM glass was requested.

I also didn't ask if was an policy-specific determination. I have American Family Insurance for the vehicle, with the no deductible glass replacement coverage option.
