I got my Mach-E 2 weeks ago and I'm still trying to learn all the ins and outs (one frustrating thing is that the manual is really poor).

I really hate the auto-lock feature, never understood why anyone would want it. I'm not taking about the walk-away auto-lock, I'm talking about the auto-lock that kicks in when you start driving. Is there any way to disable it ?

Thanks,

There is no way to disable this auto lock while driving. I’ve disabled it on every vehicle I’ve ever owned… until this one.
According to the owners manual it locks when you reach 12 MPH and unlocks again when you slow to below 12 MPH, but it never seems to unlock the doors for me.

Same here, very frustrating.

I envy you guys who live in nice, safe cities. (That's the justification behind the auto-locking, btw)
I live in an exceptionally safe area, and I genuinely don’t understand the angst about not being able to disable auto lock. Having the doors lock quite literally is of no hinderance to you as a driver or passenger at any time.

The auto-lock is turned on after you go above 12 mph. Let me understand, in your area you have criminals that run faster than 12 mph and then jump in your car ?

In any case, it should be my choice to have or not.

Here's a typical case: I go to the get the car and drive around the block to pick up my wife, I stop, forget to hit the unlock button, and she (rightly) starts cursing because the door is locked. In the previous two cars I owned I was could disable this "feature", the cars I owned before that didn't have it at all.

Too high strung. :p

Keep in mind the same auto lock that prevents your wife from getting in this scenario also prevents someone unwanted from getting in.

This is an “oh well” item for me. But if it’s what grates on you, I understand.

That's exactly how I feel about seat belt alarms!
Well, that's to annoy you enough that it forces you to do something for your own good. A couple of years ago I rented a car (in Italy) that had a seat bel alarm that increased in frequency and volume as time went by

Seriously though, that’s an oh well item for me. These are at best minor nitpicking items to be. But if it’s what grates on you, I understand.
Don't get me wrong, it's just a pet peeve, nothing major. I just wanted to see if anyone had figured out a way to disable it. As I said, my major complaint is that the manual is really poorly designed and I thought I might have missed something.

So far, after 2 weeks, I only have a couple of minor complaints.

A lot of these types of things could be changed via OTA as well.

I guess if enough people complain they could add this feature. I just find it puzzling that they thought about putting the option for the walk-away auto locking, but not for the one while you drive.

Just like some busybody decided that the automatic door locking was for your own good. Who should make decisions about your safety, and your convenience? You, or some faceless corporate lawyer?

You were right the first time: "In any case, it should be my choice to have or not."
