I understand the low pitch whine when going at low speeds is a necessary safety measure, but is there ANY way to turn off the beeping/chiming as I back up? I get home from work at 6AM and back in to my garage. My garage is on the same side of my house as my kid‘s rooms. I really don’t need them being awoken by a beeping car backing up. I’ve backed up cars for decades without it beeping. I know work trucks have to beep. But does my private car now have to do this too?
EDIT/Conclusion: No there is no setting to turn it off.
There are unapproved ways to modify the speaker that emits the sound. The speaker is under the car and accessing it requires removing the fiber protective shield.
You can then remove the grill over the speaker and place some cardboard or foam over it to muffle the speaker.
Or you can disconnect the speaker, it is connected by two blade type connectors. However if you do this you will get a “pedestrian alert” fault on the instrument panel unless you place a resistor between the two connectors. Some have had luck with a 5Watt 4.7 ohm resistor. If you try this, I must point out that resistors produce heat and if you get a cheap resistor and burn your car down, I didn’t tell you it was a good idea, only that some people had done it.
