I studied that case up and down years ago.

There is a reason why it’s so commonly cited in the “ridiculous lawsuits” category:

Personal responsibility.

She admits she spilled coffee on herself. That should be the end of the story. Whether it was 170, 185 or 190 degrees…. It will burn you.

What’s next? Sue Kraft because they make me boil their mac n cheese and the boiling water burned me?

Sue a knife company for making their knives “too sharp?”

She misused the product (spilled it). Would be entirely different if McDs threw it at her.

Lawsuits like this are the reason why they have to print (don’t put on head) on plastic bags.
You missed the point. You need to read past the I spilled the coffee on myself. She wasn’t even close to unique. Plus McD’s intentionally made the coffee far hotter than necessary for proper brewing. They had a long history of burn cases known by corporate management and had standing orders to ignore them all and keep making the coffee too hot.

Again, I studied this case a ton. I know the details.

We likely disagree philosophically when it comes to lawsuits and who is “at fault.”

If the coffee was “too hot” that should be between whoever creates safety standards for restaurants and the company. I would even be fine if they fined them for breaking some standard (if one existed).

But for the person who spilled something hot on herself, it sucks and is sad, but I don’t see grounds to blame someone else or sue them. There is an assumed risk when you buy a hot cup of coffee that it’ll be hot. How hot? Well unless it was her first cup ever, she knew how hot.

Since this was so far off topic, I’ll try to somehow tie it back to the backup beeping.

So if the car is the coffee. No wait you are McDonalds. Or uh, if the pedestrian….

Lol, I got nothin’. How did this even come up?

Full disclosure - I have not read each post in this now 18 page thread :)

Is this only equipped on US MMEs? I don't remember hearing any beeping noise on the test drives I took here in Canada, and I definitely backed out of the parking stall.

Also have not seen any European reviews on Youtube mention it - anyone Up North or over the pond wanna chime in?
Here in the UK definitely a sound when reversing although it does sound more like a gentle chime than a beep.

It is a chime here also, which I think means it is the same sound. I don't like it, chime or not.

I brought it up, point being with a big enough lawyer, such crazy lawsuits may not be that crazy. Would it really be that hard to argue that the disablement of the pedestrian safety system caused or at least contributed to someone being run over? Maybe a medium sized lawyer suffices to make that case.

If you remove the entire frunk tub then you can see the speaker housing down on the driver’s side. There are a couple bolts/screws holding the housing to a bracket. Once you remove those screws you can turn the housing over and access the speaker grill and speaker itself.

Thanks! Sounds more cumbersome than the bottom approach.

I had no problem accessing from bottom. Took speaker cover off, put a 1/4 layer of neoprene rubber int there and buttoned it up. The back up beep is just barely audible now. For liability purposes did not want to completely disable.

I parked mine on top of a couple 2x6’s under each front wheel which gave me an extra 3” of clearance.
