My sister a few years back bought a V6 Mustang. I tried to explain to her that no matter how cool she looked with the top down cruising around in Florida, that she would be a poser in my book.

What are fake performance parts? Haha. You mean things like I those little contraptions the import tuner crowd clamps to their tailpipe in an effort to simulate turbo whistling when they aren’t actually turbocharged? ???‍♂
To be fair, it is Mustang tradition.

My 69 Mach 1 is full of “fake performance parts” direct from the factory.

Non-functional hood scoop.
Non functional side vents.
Non functional chin spoiler
Unnecessary hood pins (has a regular latch as well)
Non functional deck spoiler
Racing stripes on a non- race car

I’m sure I could think of more examples but you get the idea. I love the car, but I do refer to it as the “first poseur mustang.”

I was thinking parts that are aftermarket additions I suppose. Yeah, almost any “performance” car you pick has some non-functional BS. But, I recall the Shaker hood on Mach 1s being functional (maybe only on 428CJ models?) if the owner so chose, maybe I’m wrong as my expertise lays in the EEC-IV EFI era.

Yes, a shaker hood was optional. But the non functional hood was standard on the Mach 1.

But it’s no wonder the aftermarket makes “look fast” parts when the manufacturers do the same thing from the factory.

Most people would rather have a car that looks like a race car than one that actually is a race car.

Real race cars make HORRIBLE daily drivers.

Still doesn’t justify putting GT badges on a non Gt though. ?

It’s a joke. And probably because when EV owners hear “Dodge,” this is likely what they picture:

YEEEEEEE HAAAAAW
Well, no. When I think of Dodge this is what I think of.

If they have downloads of maybe 10-20 different tones, I would not mind it as a fun thing once in a while. Maybe a Jaws movie sound, Star Trek Warp Speed, Or perhaps fake exhaust.

Personal preference I suppose. This is a “Mustang” site, after all, remember that. Many of us have owned/raced very loud Mustangs of all generations, and now, have a Mach E. I don’t put aftermarket exhausts on for their loudness, I do it for power/efficiency, most happen to be louder than factory for sure though. I always run catalytic converters and I hate the sound of the “muffler delete” cars because there’s a difference between a loud exhaust that sounds good/tuned and one that’s just max Db all the time. I absolutely don’t do it to prove anything to anyone. My car only gets truly loud when I get on it.

As a car enthusiast I’ve also seen the OEMs going to louder and louder exhausts over the past decade plus. AMG and Jaguar R branded cars started it and most others have followed. Many now have multiple exhaust modes to quiet things down when necessary. Now, you can even get an Elantra N or Camry TRD with factory exhausts that braaap, pop and bang with the best of them.
Fair enough. I get that. (And yes, but it’s an electric Mustang site - not a noisy Mustang site ?)

I guess I’m just jaded by all the side shows we get out here with their VERY LOUD cars tearing up the streets, blocking freeways and intersections, taking over and blocking local highways and roads for street racing, etc. Bunch of young, wanna be “bad ass” import punks. So that’s why my tolerance is so low for loud cars.

Why would anyone get a car with more than the bare minimum capabilities. You should all have cars with minimal acceleration and limiters at the maximum speed limit. Shape should be teardrop with small, thin tires for maximum efficiency. Power accessories? Showoff!

Haha, I took that clip in the afternoon ?. But, I do have an asshat neighbor that will mow his grass at 7:30am on a Sunday ??. Hopefully he enjoys my exhaust.
Back in the day, when I was a whole lot younger, one of our more senior Captains was on a permanent red eye flight d geg Ike, because FedEx, he lived in an upscale Memphis neighborhood (because Fedex). He mowed his lawn at 2:30 am. Yes, in the morning. So he could stay on the same sleep schedule on days off. His neighbor’s rather disliked him. So I guess it could always be worse than 7:30.

I had an interesting conversation over the weekend with Vince, head of R&D/Production at Shelby American. He said they've done some testing with EXTERNAL speakers for faux engine sounds. The interesting part was he said your body starts to "feel" the shifts, despite there being no change in acceleration rate.

Two different sound categories.

1. Internal noise. This should be handled as it is currently imo. A bit more flexibility with what our internal fake engine noise broadcast into the cabin would be nice though.
2. External Noise. This is actually a safety issue. The advocacy groups for the visually impaired want the sound to be standardized down to two or three different sounds. Currently, each manufacturer can select their own as long as it means federal standards (both statutory and regulatory). That can get to the point of being counterproductive as the blind (and others) have to process whether that particular sound is a car or a boom box or just what. I see their point. Outside noise are only in effect to approximately 20 mph anyway. Set a standard snd be done with it.

As an aside, BEVs are not the only vehicles with artificial noise. Our 2020 Raptor blends artificial noise in with the actual engine noise to arrive at a “beefier” cabin engine sound.

We used to regularly see a Subaru in Boston with lengths of French drain piping on the sides as exhausts and a paint tray on the hood as a scoop. Obvious effort had been made to make them look "real" but anyone who had ever been to Home Depot could spot the parts for what they were. Always made us chuckle. Credit for the dedication, though!
