Greetings,

Purchased a Mach E Premium, standard range LFP battery two weeks ago. Originally, we were going to use level one charging at home. We only drive 6000 miles a year. We still could get by but decided to have a 240-line run out to the garage. So far, on level one it charges about 1.5 percent an hour. When it gets to 85 percent and needs 15 percent more, it should have 10 hours left to charge. The Ford app will say something like 20 hours to full charge. I know about taper on level 3, but does it also taper on level 1 and 2? Not a big deal but may affect planning for our rare trips.

Yes, but not until it’s above 99%. That last 1% can take a while. I thought that all EVs did this, but interestingly, my EV9 doesn’t.

The Ford app has a horrible time doing accurate estimates.

Yeah, the Mach-E is the oddball when tapering. My previous Leaf and Bolt taper much sooner than 99%.

The PHEVs that I’ve had also started tapering before 99%. But my EV9 doesn’t taper at all on Level 2. It charges at full speed until it hits 100% and then abruptly stops, which is odd because its buffers are smaller than the MME’s. It does make its charge completion predictions more accurate though since it’s linear.

Maybe they found that tapering wasn't necessary when L2 charging.

For me, Ford app is not accurate

I have been L1 charging since I got the car 3 years ago. I get about 1.1% per hour (extended range lithium pack in 2021). It’s perfectly accurate.

If you get 1.5% on the LFP based on its size, you’re good.

As everyone has said the Ford app is insane. It adds 10-20 hours of extra time “just in case”. Ignore it. As Barbie one said: math is hard.

While L1 works fine, I would prefer L2 if I had it just so I’d never have to worry and could charge less often. But that’s not an option where I am.

Enjoy the car.

Can folks that are seeing the super unreasonably long charge times comment on:
  • What OS and version of FordPass you have (e.g. iOS, v5.0.2)
  • Whether you were using:
    • The "Start" button to immediately charge to 100%
    • Or letting it run on schedule
  • What charging level you were using (Level 1, Level 2, DC charging)
    • Amperage rate if you know it (e.g. 40A)
  • If you have a 2023 with the endless charge problem (blue charge port light keeps pulsing and charging slows to a trickle but never stops)
I'd like to figure out any patterns here.

  1. iOS 17. and FP 5.
  2. Scheduled
  3. L2 plug in 40 amp
  4. 2021 and software was install just before it slowed down. Worked for 2.5 years but now it is a lot slower.
Not sure if it has anything to do with the phone for my taper? Appears to be between my car and the charger.

My last and everyone since it started over a year ago.

Mine is plugged in right now and charging on level 2. At 99%, the shown rate is 6.9kw. I had it charged to 90% when I got up but forgot last night that I needed 100%. I used the “start” button and moved the slider to 100% this morning. It doesn’t have the continuous charging glitch. (I had that on a Ford loaner.)

  • What OS and version of FordPass you have: Android 5.0.3
  • Whether you were using:
    • Start charge when plugged in. Target 90%
  • What charging level you were using: Level 2 at 40 amps
  • If you have a 2023 with the endless charge problem (blue charge port light keeps pulsing and charging slows to a trickle but never stops
I do have the charge port light that continues to pulse after reaching a target of 90%. I don't have an excessive charge time based on the estimate from the FordPass app. I usually stop the charge when I'm notified the car has reached 90%. Charger lights stop flashing and blue lights turn white then go off. If I leave plugged in it will resume pulsing lights but not really charging as the car stays at 90% SOC. Normally I just unplug after charging is completed. I have an Appt soon for TSB 24-2141 which should address the pulsing light issue
