Having the app open certainly helps, but doesn't have to be open provided PAAK has been fully optimized on your phone. If you see this message on the home screen, click on it and follow the step to correct the settings so it works in the background.

The fact we're talking about a very minor inconvenience at length speaks well of the Mach-e. We're mostly past the 'pull over safely now' teething pains. ?
The fact that we even have a thread on how poorly the door opening system is speaks poorly of the Mach-e.

Everybody at Ford that developed/designed/approved this idea should be marched out of their offices and banned from ever working in the auto industry ever again.

Most of the time it's just the car has to wake up from it's sleep mode, which seems to take longer when using PAAK
It also seems to take a long time / many tries for the button to work when it's very cold. It
seems to coincide with the battery being shut down to save power, according to the screen messages.

I love it when my car is unlocked, and pressing the button does nothing, then 2nd time it locks the doors, and third time it might open the doors
It's just effing with you. Attitude is baked into all MMEs.

Yeah, PAAK is my biggest issue with the car. When I took delivery in July 2022, it worked flawlessly for a while... they totally unpredictable. When I got 4.1.2, I was thrilled to find it working quite well again but that was short lived. What is most troublesome is that you expect the door to open... and multiple button pushes and nothing. When it's raining, or in a dark lot when you want to get in right away, nothing. iPhone 14 Pro Max, current iOS (don't use betas), removing the key and re-adding and it works pretty well for a few times but then right back to unreliable.

I use PAAK and it works on the first press probably 90% of the time. That other 10% is when it is either a)raining or b) other people are waiting to get in or c) both a and b
Someone commenting on how cool the doors are is guaranteed to require 20+ pushes.

What drives me crazy is open the hatch to place something there and close it. The car relocks instantly, so you have to wait for it to cycle before you can unlock with the button. There should be a 15-30 delay after closing the hatch so you can get in and drive. Simple software fix.

I agree that using the flat of my thumb helps open the door on the first try, but only if I also have my phone in my other hand, with FordPass open, and wait near the door at least 5 seconds before pushing the button. Then PAAK works pretty much perfectly.

Actually, the car doesn’t unlock at all when you open the hatch even though it appears to (mirrors unfold, lots of clicking). It’s supposed to keep some no-gooder from accessing your car while your putting stuff away.

I've seen my wife impatiently waiting at the passenger door while I put groceries in the trunk. ?

Oh, interesting. Why bother with the mirrors then?! Oh well, but it seems that it has to cycle it's thing before you can get the button to work again.

BTW I rented a Model 3 Tesla for a couple of days. I like the Mach-E much better.

Good question….I can’t think of a reason to exercise the mirrors like that.
