Elegant solution for phone charging annoyance in Mach-e, for iPhone users anyway!

Auch, that happens rarely but it does happen occasionally indeed. Sorry about that. I will send a replacement right away.
Appreciate it! Was just about to post stating that the team took great care of the issue and another is on the way. Great customer service, so that's really appreciated and another reason for others to feel confident to order. :)

1. Maybe you could use a small mirror or take a picture/video of it with another phone?

2. You could maybe take a look at the WACM charging parameters in FORScan. If you look at all of them, you should be able to figure out why it stopped (overheating, because it thinks you moved the phone, interface, etc). There is a current parameter, but it's all over the place on my phone. Reads anywhere from 40-250 (cA?). I assume this is the current going into the coil, it seems highly position dependent and fluctuates all over the place so you will probably get a different result every time you test the built-in pad.

Also charging from 0% might cause the phone to limit the current, that's why starting at 20% might be best.
So tonight, I tried the stock Ford charging pad starting with the iPhone at 40%. It stopped charging when it reached 50%. I took the phone off the pad, then put it back on, and it started to charge again, stopping when it reached 60%.

The Ford charger is simply not reliable at all with an iPhone.

I’ve never been able to get my phone (2 phones actually) to charge on the stock pad. All it does is get hot. I ordered one of these this week and am looking forward to using it instead of physically plugging in, the only way I have been able to charge. Ford should be ashamed because my truck is the same way.

Thanks for confirming how insanely bad the stock charging pad is.

TLDR the twraps solution is really nice...

Id be interested to know how hot the phone has gotten. It's likely that the phone itself stopped charging due to heat. The charging pad seems to cause major heating issues with iPhones but would need to figure out if it's all, or specific models.

I Have a iPhone 14 Pro Max and an iPhone 13 I've tested. Both get hot, but charge just fine.

TWRAPS works great. Currently using the broken one while waiting for its replacement. Only thing I noticed is that the magnets may need to be a little stronger. I don't use a case, and the phone can slide off with a turn. However we will see if the replacement has stronger magnets.

@twraps was it designed with Apples MFI guidelines for magnet arrangement and strength? (From Apples MFI Site.)

I really just wish there was some storage bin or something that could fit on the passenger side puck. It is nice to have the passenger side option, but I'd like to put a removable storage bin that fits nicely that you can put keys, etc. on without worrying about scratching the pad itself and it being held nicely in place without flying on top of your phone. Is there really no chance you could do this?

I think that’s a cool idea. A storage bin with a MagSafe base that you can easily remove and maybe store in the lower storage area when a passenger needs to charge.

That got me intrigued! I will experiment next week, but first I need to do the skins, but before that I am wrapping up with a Lucid Air this week...so hopefully my schedule frees up next week so I can do the skins and then experiment with the MagSafe bin :)

That would be killer! The storage is what I miss.

Great product. I installed mine a few weeks ago and love it. I hated the Ford charge mat from day one. It was always a POS. My iphone would only charge for short periods of time and it never seemed to pick up any additional charge. Once I upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro, that was the end of any use of the Ford pad as the 14 won't make any charge connection. The Twrap fits and looks great, my phone stays put and actually gains charge and a second iphone can also charge which finally gets rid of a chord. People.... get this!

what is the “magsafe bin” ?
oh so the idea here that folks had -- and @twraps might be mulling over -- is to make some kind of "tray" that fits over one of the magnet positions and allows you to use it for storage when not needing to charge 2 phones. If you put a magsafe magnet ring on the tray, it would be held in place.

I finally pulled the trigger with the hope that some sort of bin, whether MagSafe or not, comes to fruition.

Received it Friday and it’s a dud, neither side charges. Total bummer. Tested the port with a cord to make sure it wasn’t that, since I never use it. Then tested the pad with a normal outlet in the house.

@twraps seems to have pretty good customer service, I'm sure they'll get you a replacement that works.

I've been investigating interesting "very small trays" on Amazon, I have a couple showing up next week to see if one fits on one side and looks ok. Will see if anything is worthwhile...
