EV CHARGERS ARE RIPPING US ALL OFF ,,,,,,,,my rates at home is 10 cents per kw/ hr the chargers down the street are 40 cents per kw/ hr I’m surprised no one ever bitches on the forum , they are easy to install and don’t require an employee
Here in Massachusetts I am considered lucky to be paying 25¢/kWh at home. For me it is cheaper to Fast charge at EA as they charge per minute and the Mach-E charges pretty quick, I've been as low as 9¢/kWh so it is all relative.

DCFC is not meant for the daily, it is pretty much the same as getting gas on or directly off the highway which is usually much more than other locations.

Correct. 24 cents a minute, roughly 1.7kW per min average to 80%, about 14 cents average.

EA's price, with Pass+, is 31 cents per kWh in most states, 24 cents per minute in about a dozen states.

Shell Recharge by me is 30 cents per kWh.

Can you provide actual examples to back your claim?
You have to buy a pass for EA though, not with Shell. Electrify in Canada is $0.57 without a pass. Petro Canada is $0.27 per minute, no pass required. I avoid Electrify Canada, and deleted their App.

All valid points. If you take a 1,000 mile trip, at 3 miles per kWh, that's 333kWh. $4.00 / 333 = 1.2 cents more, raising the 31 cents to 32.2 cents if you only did that 1 trip in the month. Double to 2,000 miles and it becomes 31.6 cents.

@ThatGuyLando said that EA was almost twice the price of Shell Recharge, and that appears to be wrong.

EA only exists by the grace of billions of VW money they can burn.
Right, EA only exists thanks to Dieselgate and the $2Billion they pledged to invest as part of their plea to invest in brand-neutral zero-emission vehicle infrastructure

I'm sure it varies from state to state but here in Iowa at least, even paying Shell's .25 transaction fee I can save a good chunk of change per charge.
Here are the ones I've used here in Iowa.

Not only is it almost twice as expensive, but it seems I can get better rates at shell chargers vs the paid plan on electrify america because that's $4 a month + $0.31kwh.

Let's assume the 333kWh needed. That's about 6 charges.

Shell - 333 x 25 cents + 6 x 25 cents = $84.75 plus tax
EA - 333 x 31 cents + $4 Pass+ = $107.23 plus tax

$107.23 / $84.75 = 26.5% more expensive. Not 100% more expensive.

In your example, cheaper. Not everywhere. EA has consistent pricing across the US.

Depends on person to person. I'm not gonna be charging 6 times in a month because that's not my need, so I have no use in paying the monthly fee.

In my case a 50Kwh charge session would be

EA 21.50 maybe 19.xx if I paid the subscription
Shell 12.75

so yeah that's a significant difference. If I traveled more an EA subscription might make sense but it would just be a huge waste of money for me since the vast majority of my charging is done at home.

Adding to that, the only chargers Ive seen OOS or issues ongoing have all been EA makes me want to avoid them once my free charging with FordPass is over.

Now if I had an Ev6 or another car with a 800V battery I'd definitely prefer EA since they are the only ones that offer 350Kw charging around here.

They are not ripping you off... they are losing their ass. That is why the government is subsidizing the rollout of these things.

Is anyone aware of credit cards that offer increased Cashback (or points/miles/whatever) for EV charging?
It is easy to find credit cards that give 2% or 3% back on gas, I haven't found any however that gives a higher return on EV charges.

I know US Bank is planning on launching a card that does that but looking for something available now.
Thank you!

5x points on EV. When I got one many years ago, all I had to do was open a savings account with $5 and I think donate some many to non profit to become a member. Not sure if it still the same.

I just use my points to get visa gift cards.

What is the ratio of rewards points to gift cards, and does this vary by the type of card (e.g., store card vs VISA gift card)?

Mine is 3.88 cents /kWh OTD (plus connection fee), your POCO is ripping you off :D

Complete w/ solar and batteries, I only pull power at the 3.88 cents rate (aka $0.0388). I could cut it off entirely but it's only $19/mo. Of that $.45 / day is the cost of convenience regardless.

Even running non-stop AC in the shop (or heat), it's that cheap. I waste power --- the array averages 80-100kWh a day. Once the battery bank gets larger I'll probably drop the POCO entirely. The F150 can feed the system 7.4kW of power, burning gas at the current rate of....$.41 /kWh. Crazy it's currently cheaper to power my car with my truck's generation system than it is to use public charging in some areas.

Unrelated but do they ever put the Kum & Go beside the In-N-Out?

This is good to know, since Electrify America seems to be growing alot and their prices are insane (almost double of shell recharge stations). Having a good cashback card might somewhat soften the blow.
I’ve done a couple road trips through Nevada. EA was 43¢ kWh (31¢ with $4 monthly pass).

Shell was 50¢ to 60¢ kWh plus a $2 to $5 connection fee - which wasn’t a problem since most of them were not working. Nice carport covering though if you have to wait for a tow truck.

The answer is grants and loans to electric companies to build charging stations. A condition of the loan/grant would be a cap on the allowed charges based off local residential rates.
