It’s pretty easy to turn the outlet around if needed. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember looking it up and there’s no code for orientation of ground pin on 14-50
That part should be easy but I need to reorient the box as well or maybe I can just remove it?
The problem would be the wires inside the outlet box not being oriented such that they would go into the screw terminals once the outlet is flipped upside down. It could certainly be done, but would likely require the box be moved down and conduit be cut to make use of the already-cut wires. That's the way I would do it in this situation. A way around the "no stud" situation might be to mount a big piece of 1/2 inch plywood to the existing studs, then mount the terminal box and repositioned GrizzleE to the plywood.
I agree. The orientation of the receptacle is not an issue. But the box needs to be large enough and the wires long enough to prevent the wires from being bent at a radius that is smaller than the minimum - which is generally 4 times the outside diameter.

is definitely the most likely culprit right here. If you paid $10 - $30 for your 14-50 outlet and you bought it from a home improvement big box store, you are most definitely asking for trouble. Those were not designed or physically capable of carrying the full 32 amps continuously for several hours at a time. They are designed for dryers or similar household appliances that may peak at that load for a short period.
That doesn’t seem safe.I think that the issue that happened with my Grizzl-e's plug that ended up causing the arcing and the burning or the power adapter was the position that the Grizzl-e was mounted in relation to the 240v outlet. Because of the angle that I had to bend the power adapter cable from the Grizzl-e to the outlet, it caused some strain or tension in the cable that did not allow the plug to hold securely in the outlet. Now that Grizzl-e has been kind enough to replace the power cable, I have gone ahead and more securely attached the power adapter to the 240v outlet to hopefully prevent future arcing and overheating.
