Not only is mine in the wrong position but it is also in a box so this could be tricky but I will find a way to git er dun! Lol
It’s pretty easy to turn the outlet around if needed. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember looking it up and there’s no code for orientation of ground pin on 14-50

That part should be easy but I need to reorient the box as well or maybe I can just remove it?

The problem would be the wires inside the outlet box not being oriented such that they would go into the screw terminals once the outlet is flipped upside down. It could certainly be done, but would likely require the box be moved down and conduit be cut to make use of the already-cut wires. That's the way I would do it in this situation. A way around the "no stud" situation might be to mount a big piece of 1/2 inch plywood to the existing studs, then mount the terminal box and repositioned GrizzleE to the plywood.

I agree. The orientation of the receptacle is not an issue. But the box needs to be large enough and the wires long enough to prevent the wires from being bent at a radius that is smaller than the minimum - which is generally 4 times the outside diameter.

do not charge any longer until you identify the source. First place I would look is your 14-50 outlet. Cheap leviton units are known to have screws loosen over time and fail.
This ☝☝☝☝☝ is definitely the most likely culprit right here. If you paid $10 - $30 for your 14-50 outlet and you bought it from a home improvement big box store, you are most definitely asking for trouble. Those were not designed or physically capable of carrying the full 32 amps continuously for several hours at a time. They are designed for dryers or similar household appliances that may peak at that load for a short period.

What you need is an industrial grade 14-50 outlet which is physically bigger and heavier and IS designed to carry continuous high amp loads for welders, EVSE's etc...

You will want to read this thread for descriptiom of the problem and solution.

I think that the issue that happened with my Grizzl-e's plug that ended up causing the arcing and the burning or the power adapter was the position that the Grizzl-e was mounted in relation to the 240v outlet. Because of the angle that I had to bend the power adapter cable from the Grizzl-e to the outlet, it caused some strain or tension in the cable that did not allow the plug to hold securely in the outlet. Now that Grizzl-e has been kind enough to replace the power cable, I have gone ahead and more securely attached the power adapter to the 240v outlet to hopefully prevent future arcing and overheating.

That doesn’t seem safe.

Sometimes you NEED to unplug something quickly for safety reasons.

Then again, you could hardwire it so……. Ask an electrician.

So you'll ziptie a plug to a commercial outlet on a hunch (that I think is wrong btw) on it making poor contact after almost melting down your house as opposed to buying an industrial outlet?

I just don't get people....

You could use a cable tie to fasten the cord about 3-6 inches below the outlet, would help to alleviate some of the twisting force on the plug itself.

I mean, I will say that the zip ties are quick release and I have multiple cutting tools within reach that can easily cut through the zip ties. I don't really have any other options in this spot really and the zip ties have the plug snugly locked into the outlet. I ran this by our electrician and they noted that it should not be an issue at all.
