Sorry, I did not mean anything by it. It was just a question. I see now that you call it EVSE. ?
I was not offended, Composer. Just amused by the breathless advertising. The future of electricity!

Just had the electrician out. They found that a wire had come loose behind the 14-50 NEMA receptacle and was causing the arcing. They replaced the 14-50 NEMA outlet. Unfortunately, it was not the same electrician that did the installation or I would have asked for it to be covered at no cost. I have now had to open a ticket with Grizzl-E to see about replacing the power cord/adapter for the EVSE, as the electrician recommends against using the burnt power adapter on the current unit.

Glad you caught it and got it fixed!

Turn the breaker off. You should call an electrician to inspect everything before your house starts on fire.

Just to note the Home Depot commercial outlet is not built for regular insert and removal. If it frequently needs to be used meaning often taking the plug out and back in I suggest Hubble. Industrial is built for this use and recommended for EV’s in general. The reason they aren’t the default choice is price as one is $10 the other is $100 etc.

Nice to hear that it wasn’t the Grizzl-E! I am about to buy one to replace my Ford Mobile Charger which seems to be degrading over time, currently at 9 months of usage.

If you feel the conduit to the outlet you can feel the vibration as it's charging. I suspect the primary reason for the failures is the continued high current draw loosens the screws in the cheaper units over time. The beefier industrial units have fasteners that appear to better resist loosening.

I think that the issue that happened with my Grizzl-e's plug that ended up causing the arcing and the burning or the power adapter was the position that the Grizzl-e was mounted in relation to the 240v outlet. Because of the angle that I had to bend the power adapter cable from the Grizzl-e to the outlet, it caused some strain or tension in the cable that did not allow the plug to hold securely in the outlet. Now that Grizzl-e has been kind enough to replace the power cable, I have gone ahead and more securely attached the power adapter to the 240v outlet to hopefully prevent future arcing and overheating.

I am wondering if it might be better to mount the Grizzl-E directly above the outlet to minimize the bending required to connect it?

Yes, see my pics I sent, you’ll just have to make sure your outlet is in the correct orientation

Yeah, I thought about doing that, but my 14-50 NEMA outlet is upside-down in relation to the way that the Grizzl-e adapter would be facing with it mounted above the outlet. I also do not have a stud located in a spot that would allow me to mount the Grizzl-e in-line above the outlet. We are hoping to rebuild our garage this year and I will certainly be more planful regarding the location of the charging hardware with the rebuild.

I agree with the others. Flip the outlet over and mount the Grizzle-E above it. I‘m not sure the zip ties are doing much to relieve the twisting force.

I firmly believe that the NEC/UL requirement that results in 1’ EVSE power cords actually makes them less safe, not more.
