Well, that's confusing and contradictory, if accurately quoted.

Fortunately, my purchase decision wasn't based on the name, or whether or not it was adopted.

Well, after reading the whole article, I interpreted some sections differently and some even worse.:rolleyes:

“We will never build an all electric 2-row SUV Mustang.” Well, I just looked in my garage and there is one there, so…. ?‍♂

I think we have our DEFINITIVE answer. The Mustang Mach-e is not a Mustang. It is a Mustang Mach-e. With that settled, I will go back to enjoying my Mustang Mach-e.

While names might not/should not matter much, I've been around the block enough to know when companies are not serious about certain products. I fear the MME is one of them. Farley mentioned the Transit - a short-ranged EV with a relatively niche audience. Sigh.

I am inclined to agree. However, the Mach-e is a fine name. They could pull one of those moves where they slowly drop the horse and give the car its own Mach-e identity. Similar to what happened to the Celica Supra…now commonly known as the Supra.

I do fear and suspect the Mach E (at least how we all know it) won't be a long term platform. But who knows?

I wish the Mach E looked like that 4 door Mustang mock up in the photo. Reminds me of the Audi E-tron GT.

Mustang Mach-E is the brand vs Mustang.
Then yes the Mustang name will drop.
the the electric edge will move in and the Mach-E will be a premium edge.

okay next guess.

We finally have the answer to the age old question of "Is the Mach-E a Mustang?" In the linked article below, CEO Jim Farley says they will never build an Electric Mustang or one for off-roading (sorry Mach-E Rally). Interesting little article.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/four-door-ford-mustang-super-saloon-pipeline
This quote from the article sure makes it sound like the Mach-E is a Mustang.

“We will never build a Mustang that isn’t a Mustang,” he insisted. “For instance, there will never be room for a small, two-row Ford SUVwith a Mustang badge stuck on it. But could we do other Mustang body forms – a four-door or whatever? I believe we could, as long as these models have all the performance and attitude of the original.”
And people should keep in mind that these were comments directed at an UK/EU audience which may have different views on the automotive world than us Yanks.

“One thing I can promise, however, is that we will never make an all-electric Mustang,” added Farley, discounting the unrelated Mustang Mach-E electric SUV that shares its name.

This part is actually disappointing.

An all electric Mustang coupe would be pretty awesome. I kinda assumed they WOULD eventually build one.

Blows my mind how many are still arguing or caring about semantic titles. Call it whatever you like, drive your awesome vehicle, and put your cognitive energy into something productive.
Yeah, you tell em, put your energy into commenting on a thread you care nothing about! ?
