So I got a chance to go on a little trip yesterday. I planned it to be long enough to be able to stop at an EA station and try out Plug and Charge since I have it activated now.

I didn't have high hopes just seeing all the issues people have had. But It was a perfect charging stop. I pulled up, plugged in the car, and in less than 60 seconds charging had started. I also tried a 350kw station as I've had an issue with those every time.

I pulled in with 8% charge. After plugging in and starting the charging, by the time I could get the screen to show me charging stats, it was already up to 10% SoC.

By 20% it had dropped to about 108kw. I also got some stats from Forscan.

By the time I got to 46% it was tapering down pretty bad. And that was enough to get me home. So I let it hit 50% and stopped the charge
Your charging rates are consistent with what I've been getting on 350kW EA chargers. BTW, it is useful to keep track of whether the charger is made by ABB or Signet.
ABB chargers have white sides and the manufacturer plate says ABB,
Signet chargers have black sides and the manufacturer plate says Signet.

You can see some of my rates at:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/my-travels-with-marlin-gb-fe-delivered.3298/post-126280

It looks like
150kW for 2-4 minutes
100-110kW until 40-60% SOC
about 80kW to 80% SOC
Immediate drop to ~15kW at 80% SOC

So the 150 is useful in a Zap-and-Dash (the 60 miles in 10 minute charges). It's not that important for a charge to 80%.

I’m not having luck with the 350CCS chargers. Tried twice yesterday. Both times, it took a while, then the charger sounded like it spooled up then I got the error message. Switched to the 150 CCS plug and all went well.

That has been my experience at every 350kw charger as well until this trip.

I meant to include that in my original post. This was an ABB unit.

I also stopped at one of our local charging network DCFC units. It maxes out at 125kw, and it held that 125 the entire 10 minutes I charged.

Feels like the drop to 70-79kW at 35-40% is somewhat frustrating, especially since sometimes it'll ride the 95-110kW wave for quite awhile. The only positive takeaway is that the car's charging stays flat once it's in the 70-79kW bracket.

I also finally tried out Electrify America’s network and plug and charge. It worked flawlessly. I had set up plug and charge of my FordPass app last week. I decided to take the car to the closest E/A location about 4 miles from my house. I was at 45% charge when I pulled in. All the stations were empty and although it was a mall, it was adjacent to their parking structure and at 8:30pm it was creepily deserted. I locked the car, plugged in the cable hit start and it started right up. I watched it for about a minute and it was pulling 47kwh. It started to snow so I walked over to Walmart three parking lots over. I putzed around Walmart for a half hour and when I came back to my car it was at 80% and pulling 12kwh. I unplugged and it showed a usage of 36kwh and a charge of $16.43 with a net cost of $0 and my FordPass now shows an available usage of 214kwh. I assume in April I will get that additional 250kwh added to my balance. All in all it worked flawlessly and exactly as it was supposed to. I didn’t need to change stations and worked immediately. I was shocked.

When you open FordPass, you should see "Find Nearby Chargers" or you can find them on the Map tab.

Then you find the one you want and it'll say "In-Network"

1615778007708.png

Then you pick the actual # of the charger you're at, and hit activate:

And by doing that, you'll get a charge from Ford on your saved credit card for exactly the cost of the session, no pre-loading money, no need for your own ChargePoint account, etc.

When it works. Which is not 100% of the time for me anyway.
This is what I do to activate and use Charge Point. Unfortunately, I had to do the same at EA but it was my very first time ever charging (new to EV) and plug and play did not work. And i have that set up on my FordPass. I will try the P&P again on my next road trip to see if it works.

I tried EA today at the Gilroy outlets, started at 54% SOC

First 150kw unit, I got.... 33kW of charging for a few minutes... so I moved on to one of the 350kW units and got 67kW followed by a charging fault one minute later. Went to a third unit and got 63kW but another charging fault in two minutes. Got a grand total of 13% charge. Gave up after that and just went to my destination since I had enough to get there with 10% left(got there with 20%).

Meanwhile I signed up for an EVGo account and used one of their chargers without any issues. 45kW of charging from 20%->80%. Used another EVGo charger later on without issue again.

Ive had zero problems with ChargePoint and EVGo... EA really needs to fix their shit, as of now I consider them unreliable chargers.

Honestly it sounds like it’s maybe more p&c in fords end not ea. We’re u using p&c? Or just an ea account?

P&C worked fine, I was able to connect all three times to the EA chargers. Charging rates where low though and the last two times I had charging faults which I don’t think where related to P&C.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is p&c related based on what others have reported. But I don’t have any first hand knowledge yet... ?

I tested it out on a small road trip 2 weekends ago. On the way up I stopped off at an EA station in Woodstock, VA. After a few minutes of frustration trying to get P&C to work, I came to the realization that this particular EA station doesn't support it, and isn't even listed in FordPass. Used the EA app to initiate the charge and it worked flawlessly. I should have realized this I suppose. I initially used the built-in Nav to map the trip, but switched to Waze after realizing built-in nav wanted me to drive a bit out of the way to hit an EA station in Winchester, VA. I knew there was one in Woodstock, so just used Waze to navigate there. This station had the newer Signet units installed, if that matters.

On the way back I stopped off at the Staunton, VA station, which I had confirmed is listed in FordPass and supports P&C (this station had ABB units). Pulled into a 150kW station, plugged in and about 45seconds later was charging up. Unfortunately after delivering 8kW the station/car faulted, just as I was going into Wal-Mart. Went back out to the car and couldn't get P&C to work again on that station. Moved to a 350kW station, no dice, P&C wouldn't work either. Moved to another 150kW station, no luck. Finally moved back to the original 150kW station and it worked again and didn't fault again the entire session (didn't stay very long though).

Charging curve was similar to what everyone else sees, though little lower peak as it was cold out/etc. Think it was around 125-128kW peak. Generally leveling off around 85-100kW.

Hoping EA/Ford works out the P&C kinks, and allows folks to link their EA accounts to get the better paid rates. Even with the less than "ideal" charging curve, I have no qualms about smaller road trips in the Mach-E. By the time we've taken bathroom breaks/stretches and maybe a bite to eat, the car's ready to go again.

Next time I recommend calling EA. They can often fix this with a reboot of the chargers.

I had a similar issue a couple of days ago with an EA 350kW charger that wouldn’t go over 35 kW. I moved to a nearby 150 that worked. A Taycan arrived at the 350 charger and I warned him. He should have charged really fast but it wouldn’t go over 65. EA is having significant reliability issues.

I wanted to add that the particular E/A station I went to only had 150 kwh EVSE dc chargers. I think I should have been pulling more than 47kwh when I started up but I chalked that up to it already being at 45% capacity and I didn’t hang around to watch the whole charging session.
