A friend of mine just got a Mach-E (long story!). But, it has got me thinking.

As this is Ford's first edition electric Mustang, is it worth it or wait? Merely curious if the volume of issues that people talk about, out weigh the 'joy' and 'functionality' of the Mach-E?

Thanks

The snapshot of users you see here are people who are:
1 - overly enthusiastic about the product
and/or
2 - experiencing some issue with the product and trying to troubleshoot

As a result, you are going to see people who have more problems than the general population and are willing to push limits/tinker with stuff.

I'd be willing to bet there are thousands of people out there who are more than happy with their cars and don't even know this forum exists.

Back to your question - is it worth it to be an early adopter? Unless you have disposable income, I'd say no. But if we want cool stuff, someone has to buy it.

I plunked my money down for a GTPE and am waiting (im)patiently like a small child counting down the days to Christmas.

The correct answer to this question depends entirely on you. If you are ok with the potential for a a serious disruption in your ability to use it, and are comfortable walking on the bleeding edge of technology, then yes it’s an amazing vehicle. If, on the other hand, you feel that “my $50,000 car should just work perfectly, damnit” then you’re probably better off waiting for the 2023 model.

My MME has been pretty problem free so far. (I really hope I didn’t just jinx myself) But, it has not been without its issues. To date, I have had problems with:
car throwing warning to stop and shut down immediately. (Turned car off, waited a minute, turned car back on, seemed fine, called service dept to see if it was ok to drive, they said yes)
Radio not working 3 times (disconnected 12v battery, waited 20 minutes, reconnected battery)
Rock chip leading to cracked windshield. (not fords fault, but due to a serious lack of replacement parts, I’m still waiting over a month later for a replacement)

These are each, in and of themselves small annoyances, and for me even together they don’t detract from my satisfaction of ownership, but some people have had MUCH more severe issues, and there are people for whom even the issues I’ve encountered would have them irate.

With time, all these issues will get sorted to the same level that basically all cars on the market encounter. Is waiting for that time a better move for you? Only you can answer that question accurately.

800 miles, 1 month and the dumb PAAK issues and @Ford Motor Company refusing to just say hey we recognize the phone as a 2nd key fob is not working out here is a 2nd in a goodwill to our loyal first customers is my only issue. My MME is everything I wanted, performance, luxury, and a Mustang. I like the look and uniqueness plus it is made very well as a car.

Get the First Edition, you won't be disappointed. I was able to cancel my premium and get a First Edition off the lot for sticker. I have had zero problems with my Mach e.

Do you mean First Edition as in a new model year? Or the First Edition trim offering of the Mach-E?

My PaaK worked initially, now it doesn't at all. FordPass says it's active, but I can stand at my car all day trying to get my door to open with PaaK and nothing will happen. I think Ford screwed up by relying on a device like a cell phone with so many possible variations.

That said, I have zero use for PaaK since my house keys are always with me when I leave home, and adding a fob to my key ring is something I'm used to. A second fob to keep in a safe place at home would've been nice though.

I’ve had my Mach E (First Edition trim) since mid February and I’ve had absolutely no problems with it at all. No quality issues. No electrical/mechanical issues. No performance issues. No charging issues. On the other hand, it’s such a fun car and it’s a blast to drive! So for me it was very worth it. I assume most owners have a similar experience.

Yes its worth it. Forum members are largely enthusiasts that don't necessarily represent the larger buying public. Even with ICE vehicles there are always a few issues when manufacturers update engines or software. You can buy the MME with confidence.

Yes. No issues, drives well.
PAAK is good, arrive home and front door unlocks. What are keys?

Got the car in Canada with dealer added wheels so bit more than $50k. Over the mountains on super hot days, needing more charging due to going too fast up the hills. Lots of fun. Sorting charging issues in 130f temps got me a bit heated but resolved fast.

Couple more iterations later and the car will be more solid, reliable and great. For me, I'd do this again, having way too much fun.

I think most of the allure comes from the fact that no one has ever seen one of these in public before. Everyone stops and stares and many will even stop in traffic, red lights, etc to ask about the car.

Aside from the novelty factor, it's a really "cool" / sexy looking car. In a few years it will still be a cool looking car. But it won't be the first time people will see it in public.

So I don't mind living with the minor annoyances since the novelty factor is still there. But if you don't care about having something unique or different then wait at least until next model year when hopefully the supply chain issues will be sorted out.

(NB: i jumped on this car right away as I was able to get it below MSRP thanks to X-plan. I don't think I would have purchased it if i had to pay $5k+ ADM).
