btw i just received 4.2.1 this morning so they definitely are rolling out updates to the '23s finally. too bad the update doesn't really do anything!
As others here have mentioned, it's common to get a GWM update before some new features, so this is a Good Thing™.

i guess what's confusing about this is that '23 cars shipped from the factory with rev 592 of sync, but 4.2.1 does not contain the sync update that adds the camera button in the top ribbon. meanwhile, older cars got 4.1.2 which did contain that sync camera button update. so it's looking like '23 owners are going to have to wait for some other update to sync to gain that functionality...?
Keep in mind that we don't even know if 4.2.1 will be delivered to '21 or '22 cars. Or, maybe we do get it and it's the exact same gwm update your car got. Or, we get it and it's something totally different.

If you take a look at the version history Wikipedia page, there are updates between Lightning and MME that have similar names but different content, and some updates on that page never applied to '22 vehicles, and so on.

Has anyone looked at their "About" screen lately? Mine says I have Hands-Free driving through 10-06-2073. Sweet! 50 years of hands
Time to go buy those PowerBall tickets. ;)

i get it. i guess what bothers me about all this is their software discipline is all over the map. there doesn’t seem to be any effort at all to keep features and versions in sync. while this is annoying for customers, it seems like a nightmare for reliability and potential bad interactions between various modules in the car. in the end it just makes more work for ford’s software team, assuming they actually test all these myriad configurations.

And now for 10 pages of people with MY 21/22 complaining that they might not get something that the MY23 got....
If it's all software, than there should be an outrage if they want to compete with Tesla at all.

I bet less than 1% of people consider software updates for a vehicle as top priority when purchasing. If you're in that category you can order a Tesla here...

But even then, phones, computers etc don't get updates forever. Everything has an EOL and windows 11 has features not included in windows 10 - how dare they, am I right?

Well I hope they at least fix the bugs that were introduced

Completely agree that fixing what they broke should be a granted (remember how many people blasted me for complaining that Ford wouldn't recall the HVBJB). Most large companies will issue OOB updates even to EOL if it's necessary.

For the life of me I just can't understand why people feel they are entitled to feature updates for future MY vehicles, especially if they have no idea if they even have the hardware to support it. I've said before, sure I would like to get new updated features for free, but I don't expect it, or cry about it, like many around here do.

I understand what you’re saying. Ford has been promising an updateable vehicle though, but they haven’t been specific on the EOL details and what people should expect. The upside for Tesla and Ford and other companies doing this is they can ship unfinished products and just fix things on the fly. Basically how video games have been shipping for over a decade, which isn’t totally in the consumer’s benefit a lot of the time.

I'm gonna complain that there's no software update to deliver dog biscuits and a bowl of water. ??

I got an alert on FordPass that an update was successful on 2/24.
I have a 2023 MachE Premium AWD SR. I have the new UI with I purchased the car in Dec 2022 but I don't see the camera button or anything new with this update.
Did anyone get this? I'm unable to clear the alert on FordPass, super annoying.

The GWM update that amounts to OTA 4.2.1 has come out in both FDRS and OTA for the Lightning (GWM rev. "-LMA"), and I applied it as an update using FDRS for my Mach-E (GWM rev. "-LKA").

Also, there are Lightning OTAs that are exactly the same as their Mach-E counterparts and yet they aren't listed as such on the wiki. 4.1.1, 4.1.2 (AKA Sync 640), and 4.1.3 were exactly the same GWM, APIM, GWM updates on both the Lightning and the Mach-E...but I don't edit or update the wiki so.....not sure who's in charge of that.
