Getting a second fob programmed

I went to a different dealer than I bought the MME from, the closet dealer to me. They had it programmed in about 20 minutes and charged $75. That was on top of the $70 cost of the fob at carandtruckremotes.

I had the dealer program my extra fob while it was in for other updates. They only charged $35 for a fob programming.

I had to advise the guy at the Service Desk that the MME does NOT require a key to be cut! Lol

That seems to throw everybody I talked to about programming, they are surprised I don't need the key cut. One person insisted I would need that.

This may be the first Ford that doesn't use the blade key for anything. Can anyone confirm? It is the first car I've owned that has 0 lock cylinders.

The MME doesn't come with two FOBs??!!! I just ordered mine last month and that seems crazy.

It was stated here somewhere that they will start supplying 2 fobs with recent orders.

All I have seen regarding that is second hand info from users. Nothing official from Ford that I am aware of. I picked my car up on 7/26 and asked the dealer about a second fob. They said Ford was not providing one but I could purchase one at a discount. YMMV.

Finally got the second fob programmed today. Probably gonna order a 3rd just to have one to do that again instead of paying the dealer for .75 hours.

I took them the instructions and everything, took them maybe 10 minutes. When the dude looked at the instructions he goes "Oh its just like all the fords" to which I responded "Yeah, thats what I tried to get the salesman to tell ya" he got all shocked "Alright but we gotta charge you .5 hours just to hook it up to the computer"

I mean, we got it done, but I thought dealers were past the pay to hook it up crap. This is my first ford since 2003ish, the dealers for my jeep and gmc dont charge just to hook it up. They do charge Diag, but something like that seems annoying.

I always loved it when I got the "Why is it so much? You're just pushing some buttons." from customers. You're not paying for the button pushing, you're paying for my knowledge of what buttons to push and the cost of the equipment on which I am pushing the buttons. Nobody likes to work for free.

The old boilermaker adage, I use it frequently. Here’s the thing though, he shouldn’t have said that because it makes it sound like a lube tech could do it and I shouldn’t be paying for it. If he said “our service department has a 1/2 hour minimum charge” that makes sense to me (I have a 4 hour after hours minimum).

ya get what I mean? I’m not upset at the 80 bucks I paid to get it programmed, I fully expected that, but don’t tell me “the rate is .75 hours for this” and when I say “I’m good with the 1 hour minimum but I don’t really want to wait an hour” (there were 4 techs just hanging around shooting the breeze andprobably 75% of the bays empty) don’t say “well .5 hours just to hook up the computer”

to be fair, I also didn’t make it all the way from the service department to the sales department before they paged me (I needed to get some paperwork from the fni guy)

What could you be thinking, when both my 2016 F150 and my 2017 Edge each allowed me to program a spare fob. I did it myself, on both of my vehicles, with on-line purchased keyfobs, and instructions provided in the manuals.

As it stands right now, if you lose or accidentally damage your MME fob, your only alternative is to go to the dealer, entailing time and a substantial amount of money.

How much would a lost fob cost me?

Talk about regressing!! ( returning to a former or less developed state.)

You can program your own fob on the MME. If you already have 2 programmed fobs. At least according to some posts on here. I haven't tried it.
