We have used the 2nd fob for every vehicle in one of the following situations: 1. The battery in the first fob ran out and I was too cheap to replace the battery (this happened with every vehicle I have owned in the last 20 years); 2. I accidentally had the fob in my pocket when I drove away in the other vehicle, which happened only twice in two decades - as lousy as PaaK may be, I suppose my wife can live with using the backup code to start her car once every ten years. With that in mind, I was only somewhat annoyed that I would have to replace the battery in the one and only Mach-E fob at some point, but then I found out they are CR2450's which I always keep a stash for other electronics anyway.I don't get all the angst about it either. The second fobs for every other vehicle I've owned have spent 99.9% of their lives sitting in a basket on my kitchen counter. For some though it's their hill to die on.
