I don't get all the angst about it either. The second fobs for every other vehicle I've owned have spent 99.9% of their lives sitting in a basket on my kitchen counter. For some though it's their hill to die on.
We have used the 2nd fob for every vehicle in one of the following situations: 1. The battery in the first fob ran out and I was too cheap to replace the battery (this happened with every vehicle I have owned in the last 20 years); 2. I accidentally had the fob in my pocket when I drove away in the other vehicle, which happened only twice in two decades - as lousy as PaaK may be, I suppose my wife can live with using the backup code to start her car once every ten years. With that in mind, I was only somewhat annoyed that I would have to replace the battery in the one and only Mach-E fob at some point, but then I found out they are CR2450's which I always keep a stash for other electronics anyway.

So where is it?

Same place as every other Ford fob. You're looking at it. The silver arch is the top of the key blank and you can pull it out.

I called the dealer I bought from and they quoted me almost $400 for the fob, plus shop rate for programming. Is there something special about the Mach e fob?
This may be beating a dead horse but when people start putting up posts, like the quote above, on social media, is that more or less likely to promote MME sales??

As a Ford investor, I am concerned that it is less likely. Simple as that.

If I did not know better, and actually had to pay that $400+, I would look elsewhere for a vehicle. I don't ever accept dealer packs, and that would be one. But that is just me.

what are you talking about? look at my post history and you’ll see how enthused I’ve been about my mme. I called the dealer I bought from, they took the last 8 numbers of my vin and pulled the fob details. The cost was actually MORE than 400, I looked at the numbers again. Another local dealer, without my vin info, told me it would be $65 plus programming.

edit to add: this price is inclusive of the fob and the blank key. fob 265, key 165 plus shop rate for programming and not sure if they have an hour min. PLUS 13% hst. So let’s say shop rate is 65 and they have an hour min, getting a fob from this dealer would cost me about $538. That is ridiculous.

so I asked a simple question - what is special about these fobs? I can’t see what could justify the price. Read into the question as you want.

That is totally wrong, look up the part number and you will see that the fobs are nowhere near that price. There is nothing special about the fobs - my $30 fob still works fine and retains all my settings, shows the pony when I walk up, and my seat adjusts every time - so don't let the dealerships fool you. The one from carandtruckremotes is a good one to go with because it has the mustang logo but the trunk button will look slightly different.
Thank you! I’m going to check with a few other dealers tomorrow. This one quoted me using the last 8 digits of my vin. I’m curious what others will say.

Have you shopped keyless ignition fobs from other manufacturers? I know from experience that Cadillac and Infiniti fobs are very expensive. Reports indicate the high end German brands are at least twice as expensive as the MME.
My guess would be that aside from an extremely small percentage of potential buyers, key fob cost never enters into the purchase decision.
