Polestar is a Google only system and Apple CarPlay works as long as you plug into USB. CarPlay is not supported via wireless connection.
I think they are jumping to conclusions.
Having said that EVERY headline states GM dropping Carplay and it's not going to be a good look for them.

For me it is about the music. I cast Spotify from my phone to my Sonos speakers but when I get into my MME, the music just moves from the house speakers to the car without me touching a thing. I'm sorry but that is pretty dern cool and not something I take for granted.
Yeah, I listen to a ton of podcasts, my devices like my watch and phone sync up, cause sometimes I'll exercise with just the watch on and out of range. I would have to use some other service and pay for it to get that feature on a system without CarPlay.

The vehicle still has to have support for the CarPlay protocol. It's not just a monitor you plug into.

"Mr. Farley, what do you think about GM's decision to dump Apple Car Play?"

"Um, thank you?"

?
Yeah, Ford is still way-ahead on CarPlay support than other companies, pretty sure the Mach-E and Lightning(?) are the only vehicles that support Apple Maps EV routing still, not sure if BMW has implemented it yet

Yeah this is going to hurt them big. Apple touted that over 70% of new car purchasers look for a vehicle with CarPlay as a feature. They just lost all those possible customers.

Privacy is becoming a major concern for people so a company they just openly stated they want MORE customer data is going to lose that fight. Silly and very short sighted move by GM. Lets see how long it takes them to reverse course and catch up to everyone else.
I doubt this will hurt GM. It hasn’t hurt Tesla or Rivian in terms of interest and purchases.

I think that it’s a sucky decision due to the acknowledgment that GM wants to collect more user data and I would assume GM’s version of Android Auto will allow them to do that.

A lot of these companies just want to take out data and use it to make money and GM is no different.

I don't care about CarPlay, but I don't see why they need Google's help to siphon driving data - I'm sure the MME does it just fine right now ?. On the other hand, maybe they want help from the world's experts on data siphoning :D

I think Tesla and Rivian users have been holding out hope for some features to come, like Apple Music, which it did. But GM outright declaring they will no longer support it, I think that will hurt them in the long run.

True however GM does not have Tesla's EV legacy (good or bad) and charging network to leverage nor does it (yet) have Rivian's technical chops and "cool factor" appeal. Oh and lets not forget neither Tesla nor Rivian makes you hassle with a dealership. Those things may have helped them overcome the lack of AA and Car Play. Emphasis on "may".

I will confess the lack of AA is one of three reasons I drive an MME and not a Model Y (tax credit and physical buttons are the other two). Even my Model 3 driving co-worker (who knows me well) said the lake of AA would have driven me nuts.

Yeah, also Teslas are somewhat readily available. Rivian not so much yet. I decided on MME over MYP as well because of CarPlay, it would just have been such a huge annoyance paying $60k+ for a car and being reminded of that every time.

The "lake"? Really Gus. I made that typo twice in the same post. Obviously I'm concerned with the lack of lakes or something.... ?

Even when I rent a car, the first thing I look for is CarPlay compatibility. I'd rather have that than larger displays, leather seats, gas mileage, color, make, or model. Then I don't have to worry about setting up another infotainment system, music, and most of them are completely inferior anyway.

I've used the Sync4 maps in my MME exactly once, when a long day left my phone drained nearly empty and the only way to get a positive charge off our terrible oem wireless pad is to not use CarPlay. It was definitely better than some infotainment systems I've used, but it's still nowhere close to the experience of Apple/Google/Waze maps.

Yeah, I agree. They have been and there are some Tesla owners who have come up with workarounds for it. GM was one of the last companies to adopt CarPlay when it first rolled out, and they did see the consequences of it. (Which is why they ultimately added it.) To me, this shows their leadership is misguided or is simply out of touch with where the technology market is going. This will cost them in direct and indirect ways.

I don't see the problem here. There's no need for apple car play if every car play feature is built into an advanced gm head unit and/or available via a downloadable app. Android automotive will be king if the 3rd party apps are stellar. They can't cheap out on the hardware though.
