Hi,

I’m planning on getting a Mach E GT this or next week and want to make sure I’m not making any decisions I’m going to regret.

I’d like to have a new car rather sooner than later, i.e. not order and wait several months, so I’ve been looking at different Mach Es for sale at Ford dealerships in my region, and there’s actually quite a selection within only 30 miles or so. I’ve already narrowed it down and know that I want a GT. Ideally I would want a GT performance edition, but I can’t find one for sale in any of the colors I like. Yesterday I just checked out a cyber orange 2022 GT (non-PE) at a ford dealer - pre-owned, only 7k miles, for $59k. Seems like a good deal, is it? At a different dealer there is also a grabber blue GT with 2k miles for $61k. Those are the two colors I like the best by a long shot. On the other hand, I found a 2023, new, shadow black, GTPE for $77k. Also has the nite pony package, which I think is pretty sweet. Seems too expensive though?

Can’t decide where I would have ‘less regrets' - buying an overpriced GTPE in a color I don’t like and the right packages, or a cheaper (slightly used) GT in a nice, popping color. Anyone here that has a GT but is absolutely regretting not getting the performance edition? Should the color be a consideration? Or should I just vinyl wrap it - I never looked into that. Or similar: I really like the GTPE wheels, but I guess I could just buy a set of aftermarket wheels? Or is that a pain with all the modern electronics etc?

A little bit about myself: I’m kind of into cars, but not an absolute car nerd. Have never been on any sort of track or similar. Had a BMW 1 for a long time, had a lot of fun with that and did some small cosmetic mods, but not much. Now actually haven’t had any car for a couple of years, because living in the city. Am married, probably kids at some point.

$18k is a huge difference. IMO, the only better feature that the GTPE has over the GT is the magniride l. Fortunately, aftermarket coilovers are available for $5k if you'd like a better tuned suspension. I'd say just get the standard GT.

Try the GT. You might be happy you saved a bunch of money over the PE. I agree that magnaride is the main difference but I have no issues with the ride in my GT. And in my opinion, Nite Pony is a ripoff. You are paying a lot of money basically just for the wheels. Nothing else is really blacked out. You could do better buying your own wheels if you hate the flower petals.

I like the GT just fine (regular edition), no regrets.

I would pay $5k extra for the fancy PE wheels and Magneride, but no more than that.

I'm completely happy with my GT (although I greatly preferred the interior on it vs the GTPE). The suspension really is the big difference, and if you haven't had a chance to test drive both variants I would highly suggest waiting until you do, many folks here think it was well worth the $5k. $16k however would be a non-starter for me. More will appear, I wouldn't rush into it.

One thing to consider cost wise is for now there is still the $7500 tax rebate on a new purchase versus a used purchase. I went with a GT and have enjoyed it so far.

We had a 22 GT that we traded for a 23 GTPE for a few reasons, of which Magneride is probably the biggest. It softens the ride just enough that it's worth it for us, but it's certainly still stiff/sporty compared to a luxury vehicle.

If you test drive one, I would recommend getting it up to freeway speed if they'll let you. We've found that the difference is less pronounced at slower speeds around town.

One more thing, GTPE comes with Summer only tires but the GT comes with all seasons. Just something to consider if live in a place where it snows or gets below 20 F more often

Why compromise?

Just wait until you can find exactly what you want.

Don’t forget the new 2023 will qualify for a $7500 tax credit if your income isn’t too high.

Look farther than 30 miles.

Don’t forget to factor in the $7,500 credit on the new one.

I live in an area where the roads are very rough. For me, the GTPE would be the only way to go. The suspension seems much more controlled worth the difference in price.

I would advise doing an extended drive on the GT and GTPE if you feel there is enough difference to justify the GTPE and it fits your price range then buy it.

I would buy new and order if necessary. You don’t want to buy a color you don’t want. Wait if necessary. I waited. Got x plan on a 2023 and already got my $7500 tax refund. The time will pass. The color won’t change. For $7500 I would wait.

I forgot about the interior. I also much prefer the standard GT interior, actually I really like it. I almost went GTPE when I was placing my order. I’m glad I didn’t.

I wouldn’t buy a used Mach-e. There are far too many new ones sitting on dealer lots. The market has turned, buyers now have the upper hand. Supply and demand is a beautiful thing when you’re on the right side of the scale.
Which has caused used pricing to drop as well...and at least if used GT pricing reflects recent trade offers, a used GT should be in the 50k price range.

The used ones aren't going to go below MSRP unless dealers are either willing to take a wash or Ford offers some rebates/incentives.

IMO used is where it's at right now.
