Only bug-a-boo is that the AC indicator on the main sync screen comes on sometimes. Not sure why. I turn it off immediately.

There is no need to do that. Just let it do its thing. The system will use AC as needed to dehumidify the air.

But the “AC” is still the same heat pump unit after all, just cooling instead of heating, so you’re not wasting any extra energy because the heat pump is already running for heat.

It will be really interesting to see how this plays out, but I think that in fact just the nature of the battery chemistry and the fact that in the winter you get more drag from colder air and maybe winds are factors a heat pump isn't going to affect.

I posted my results on a recent cold-ish drive over in the trip log forum (spoiler: 3.1 mi/kwh while using HVAC).

I'm not familiar with pre-2025 numbers but I have the suspicion that if anything, the heat pump will allow you to use the HVAC without as much range loss, but not necessarily give much of a range boost overall.

Using the GOM for this will not give accurate results. The mi/kwh is a better way to analyze. Yesterday I was on the NYS Thruway, 25 degrees f, going 70mph I was getting 2.6 mi/kwh with the heat off. I then turned the heater on and after 10 minutes I was getting 2.4 mi/kwh. This is consistent with what I have seen in my 4 years of ownership. I don't think the heatpump will be that impact full especially when it get really cold as it will be operating more like resistance heat.

That’s the right way to look at it. Need to compute miles / kWh for a similar trip with a 25 and pre-25 model of similar trim. Anything else lumps in variables that we want to control for.

That is the fundamental problem. To accurately measure this the only real test would be to take out two similar models on the same trip with everything the same except the model year.

I’m pretty convinced that the overriding factors will not come from what the heat source is.
You lose most of the range to the pure physics of the other conditions like the battery efficiency and extra wind resistance. The savings for a more efficient heat source will most likely be a small percentage of this.

There are several examinations in Germany for the mostly mild weather here that if the HP comes with the car as Standard then fine. If you have to buy it as an upgrade then it only is worth it if you expect to use the car in really cold conditions otherwise it will most likely not return the cost of the option. So not to worry for the mme as it is on newer models standard. I own now the 2nd mme w/o HP and its für me ok. Right now in december we have outside 3 degrees Celsius or 37 fahrenheit

Sounds like the heat pump can hold a warmer cabin temperature better in the colder weather than the pre 2025 models. So that’s great. Anyone notice if there is less jail bars (on average) in the colder weather than the pre 2025 models? Hoping the newer models can provide more heat to the battery so jail bars aren’t maxed out at 20* etc.

If the heat pump made a significant difference in the range, Ford would be promoting it much more in the literature. I would assume due to the silent introduction it's not huge.

Ford likely would only promote it heavily if it made a significant difference *in the EPA range test*. The heat pump is going to help certain customers in certain conditions. I doubt any marketing team is going to be ok with an ad that says "Now with a heat pump! You will miss the EPA range by less than last year's model when the temperature is between 30F and 50F!"

Average temperatures were in the low 40s this past week in the Atlanta area. I am seeing about a 20% penalty on range. The cabin gets comfortable within an acceptable amount of time for me. Of course, this is a great time to precondition your cabin on shore power before heading out!

Temps below 20 last couple of days and below 0 yesterday morning here and was getting about the same mi/kwh as my 22. 2.5 was my average driving around 65mph most of the way on my 25 mile trips to and from work. 2.4 is what I use to average with my 22
