IMO, I did the test drive on both and decided to go with the MME. Reasons:
  • Missing instrument cluster.
  • No Car Play.
  • Overall cheap looking interior materials.
  • No tax credit.
Ford seems to be playing very safe on this new release so I was expecting them to use 'belts' and 'suspenders' to make sure this car does not fail. On the hardware side this computer on wheels is very well done. The software side needs work. The opposite I can see in the MY, the hardware needs work but software is more refined.

That playing safe from Ford also gets in the way of the OTA. The delivering system takes ages to apply to all cars.

IMO, Tesla has an Apple attitude to their product, you get what you get and they know what's best. And if you question you are using it wrong. For example, when I questioned the sales guy at Tesla why not a driver's cluster, his reply was - you won't need it since the car will drive itself when full self drive is available.

All in all, I'm happy with my decision, maybe in 3 or 4 years I would move to a Tesla.

Believe it or not, the Tesla Y was low on our list due to the inability to turn off 1 pedal driving. My wife is the daily driver for the Mach-E and wanted the option.

Tesla was a rocketship and while the lease came in at a pretty good monthly payment, the purchase price being over 50K made us ineligible for the MA state rebate ($2500) and lack of federal tax credit ($7500) made it a non-buy.

Finding a MME on a lot in RI, for well under 50K and ther Ford Option made the Mach-E a better buy. The pluses above also contributed it to being our #1 choice for our first EV.

I chose the MME for a couple of reasons.

1. Tesla builds technology and puts wheels on it, Ford builds cars and puts technology in it.
2. Body style. The tesla just doesn't do it for me. It looks like a pregnant model 3, which isn't a good looking car to begin with
3. Price, Yes they are similar, but when you get in to the more advance stuff (FSD) that costs 10k more, and just isn't worth it right now.
4. Build quality. My Brother-in-law owns a model y, I noticed a lot of panel gap issues when he bought it.
5. Tax credit
6. Novelty, I live in Portland Oregon. There is a tesla every other car (or a subaru) This car turns heads.

1. I have the cheapest version of MME and it has rwd. I never considered the FWD because It cost more and it cuts into your range.

2. The MME does have one pedal drive and I absolutely love it.

3. I believe your model comes with two fobs for the MME.

4. I have no problems with "Phone as a key".

5. If you take long trips often, then a Model Y should be considered.

6. The instrument panel is great in the MME. The panel in front of you is really nice. The dial for volume control is a plus for me.
When you approach the MME at night, it lights up and a Mustang is displayed on the ground on both sides of the car. Nice touch!

7. When "Car and Driver" tested all EV cars, they choose a MME. That was a consideration for me.

8. Apple car play is nice because I like to listen to audible books when I drive. I also like to have Waze playing in the background for alerts.

9. I live in New Jersey and they gave me a $5,000 rebate, no sales tax (6%), as well as the IRS credit of $7,500. This was the main reason I went with the MME. I also liked the looks of the MME.

10. I never saw the space in the Model Y but the MME had plenty of space in the back. When the seats are folded down, I can store large items.

11. Both are great cars and the main advantage Tesla has is the software and their network of superchargers. Those were not a big consideration for me since I don't make many long trips.
I did make a 700 mile trip and the charging stops were at EVGO DC chargers.

12. Cost was a big consideration for me. As you can see from number 9, I had over $12,000 in savings. That was a no brainer for me.

Nope really different not the same sorry. Maybe in your eyes but the shape of the circle and how much it is indented is different. That would be like saying well it has headlights or seats they are all the same. That would be like saying the kia, huyndi, and id4 are all the same as the mache since the design is all about the same.

Also note the handling in the model 3 long range vs performance is the same and charging. Performace gets bigger tires and is faster. Never heard someone say went performance and paid and paid a big chunk of change for the handling difference lol.

Again when aero is involved you either go against the grain or keep things simple for aero.

Hilarious -- your pictures make them look even more alike. My year model 3P was lowered from the factory and handles beautifully. I understand they stopped lowering them though. So, yes, I bought it primarily for the handling. If I got skinnier wheels I'd get more range. But, then I'd have bought the LR.

In late September, I placed a deposit on the Mach-E ($53,100 for Premium, Extended Range, RWD, Grabber Blue) and the Model Y ($53,990 for Long Range, Pearl White, 19" Gemini, Black Interior). Both were originally scheduled to be delivered in April, though the MY is now showing a Feb 19 - March 19 delivery. I can only buy one. There are still many months before I need to decide. As of today, I am exactly 50/50 on which I will pick. Some of this decision will depend on the available tax credit at the time of purchase. Hopefully congress gets its s*$@ together and both get a credit next year. If one is substantially cheaper due to a tax credit I will likely go that way (though hard to say if the MY shows up without a credit and the Mach-E still has one but is still months away from delivery).

Anyway, I need your help! I've put together a list of pros and cons in the fine tradition of Benjamin Franklin and Walter White. These lists are specific to my own decision, as I see it. Please let me know if any of these considerations are off base, or if there is anything else I should be considering. I will post the two lists in subsequent posts.

I canceled my Y order and have the MME 4X in my garage. I based this on looks, driving experience and dealer locations.

I test drove both multiple times and bought Mach E.

Advantages: more sporty look, reasonable looking dash compared to bland Y,
federal and state tax credits of $8,250.

You can also test drive the Mach E via the TURO platform. I live in San Diego and list mine on the platform. There are seven other MachE’s with different configuration also in San Diego. So I hope you have at least one in your area. If not, fly to San Diego for vacation and try ours out. Here is the link:

I just looked and no MME's where I live but a neighbor has a MY. I could rent, walk over and go for a drive. Only $119/day plus whatever fees there would be.

From personal experience I just received my GT and everything that was supposed to work does fit and finish is good car is working great so far no issues. I went to an early morning Starbucks by my house next to me was a model Y. The owner of the model Y came to me and said hey I really wanted one of those but I couldn't wait and got this now that I see one in person I wish I got the GT over the model why he really liked the styling a lot better

Apple car play is constantly disconnecting or can’t reconnect after a phone call.
After your call, and you don’t get your sound back, just dial another number, wait until you hear it ringing through the speakers, then hang up. You may get your sound back from whatever you were listening to.

I’ve had this same problem and have tried everything I can think of and when I tried this, it worked. I’ve only been able to verify it one time but it did work, give it a try.

Hope this helps

I will put it this way. My Doctor has a model Y and we compared them side by side in his parking lot. He was fascinated by the Mach-E and I was glad that I didn’t buy the MY!! Lol
My dentist has Model S, he always parks it in front of his office. I parked next to his. He saw it and got very excited. I said he can sit inside as soon as we are done. He finished my crown in 15 minutes saying anesthesia wasn't necessary. Next time I will park across the street where he can't see it.
