Hey guys,

We've had our 2025 Premium EAWD for a few months now and someone hit us and took off at the charger the other day. The damage appears to be cosmetic, so we were thinking we'd pay cash and skip insurance. We took it in for an estimate today and the body shop we went to said they are unable to work on any EVs, including Fords, because they'll lose their Ford certification if Ford finds out. They said Ford wants to do all the EV work themselves because of the sensors under the panels. Wondering if anyone else has come across this and if that's accurate information. Google is coming up empty. Thanks!

That doesn't seem right at all. I have some front damage that was minor and took it to a couple shops. Both gave a quote just fine. The body panels on an ev aren't any different than any other car.

If I go to Ford Pass and look for a place to get work done for my Mach E literally 0 within a couple hundred miles are “Ford dealerships” and all listed are Ford certified body shops.

So not sure exactly who they expect you to go to….cause Ford doesn’t exactly tell you to go to their dealerships for body work (at least in my case).

Pretty much everything they list is owned by Caliber so you can have your own opinions on that though.

Sounds like the shop you took it to just doesn't want to work on it. I'd suggest that you find a different shop for an estimate. If the damage is pretty minor, you might want to contact a mobile body shop. I did for some vandalism damage to my 2021 GT-PE and not only did they do a great job at my office, their charge was less than my insurance deductible and the body shops all wanted in the neighborhood of 8-10x my deductible. 😁🐩

Don't know where your damage is, but parts are now plentiful on eBay / used car part websites. Might be easier/cheaper to find a replacement and swap it yourself. I got the rear tail light for $100 somehow when Ford charges $1,000 for it.

Ford can't "do all the EV work themselves", for the simple reason that they don't own any service shops or body shops. Just call your Ford dealer and ask them to recommend a body shop that can work on EVs.

Can’t really answer properly without pictures of the damage.

Many body repairs will not mean becoming involved in the HV system or sensors is even necessary.

It’s the recalibration of the sensors that ford has to do. We had a door ding fixed and the body shop had to take off the mirror to paint the door once they did that ford sent a repairmen to the body shop to recalibrate all the sensors

I had front bumper damage from someone bumping into my car at low speed that looked cosmetic fixed at a chain body shop. No issues, Ford certified.
Other guy’s insurance (neighbor fessed up) paid over $3K.
I had a hit and run in a rental. Went through my insurance, it was not my fault and my rates did not go up.
You might want to reconsider paying yourself, depending on the estimate.

This same person will probably tell you that you shouldn't park an EV in the garage cause it’ll burn your house down. You can’t fix stupid.
