Being a Poodle of itchy phalanges, I decided I wanted the older ignition switch in my 2024 GT. So, I pulled the center screen and the instrument panel center trim panel. The switch is just held into the IP center trim panel by a pair of spring-loaded legs. Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch, squeeze the legs, and the switch slides out the outer face of the center trim panel. Reverse to install. The whole process took less than half an hour, a good portion of it trying to disconnect the pink connector from the center screen (paws too fat to depress the latch and not enough claw). 😁🐩

While the old switch has the indicator lamp in it, the car does not illuminate it. Do any of the ForSCAN experts have any idea if this can be enabled in software? 😁🐩 If it can’t, I will probably swap the switches again. 🤪🐩

Hey Steve, not sure how I missed this! Probably because I'm busier than normal and also seems like tons of new threads lately. Can't keep up. 😊

The indicator on your ignition switch is not lighting because the wire from the BCM that powers the LED is missing. The 6-pin connector on the back of the switch has one open spot. This is where there used to be a wire going to the BCM. You need to run a wire from there to the bottom connector on the BCM. I have a photo of what position that wire goes in, just need to find it.

No need to use FORScan or configure anything. It will just work. I did this about a year ago. It's fairly simple and if you are interested in doing it, I will give you more details.

LOL just one lousy wire. Silly me. Yes I am interested. I’ll also see if I can bring up the Pinouts myself but if you beat me to it that’s even better. 😁🐩

Decontenting is normal, and very few of us have the big picture. But, damn, some of this smacks of nickel and diming. Deleting one wire? Really Ford?

BTW, good idea. :)

As far as the 6 pin connector behind the switch, there is only one spot open. There are wires in the other 5 so no need to figure that out. On the BCM, it is position 20 in the Bottom connector.

Pull the connector, cut the zip tie holding the wiring loom to connector, remove the white back shield and below I marked where the wire goes. Position 20 is between the Blue/Gray and Green/White wire. Put shield back on and new zip tie securing wiring loom to connector and reinstall connector.

Seems like a lot of effort to make a light blink. To each their own.

Steve and I have added back in our '24's several features/parts that we both missed in our '21's and this one takes about an hour to do. Not too bad but I understand your point. When you are used to something for 4 years then you don't have it.....

Oh, I get it for you guys. And I think it's great that you do so much with your vehicles. But that's a lot of work for a tiny light.

A very good point. So much has changed with the car since its launch. We all know about the stalk shifter and kick to open. But the things we use every day without thinking about them can really be obvious when they're gone. Sound deadening and laminated glass are all obvious changes. The power button and the lack of an illuminated hatchback switch are not so obvious until they're gone. The blinking light? I totally get it.

LOL back in the day there was a stupid mad race for what my company called “blinky lights” in the personal computer mass storage industry. We wasted so many dollars in putting lights on stuff because consumers wanted to see green, red, yellow, blue, etc. lights illuminated or flashing. Never mind that some of that junk by definition (because the cables obviously mounted to the back of the enclosures) was necessarily on the back of the storage enclosure mounted on a rack. 🤣🐩

I worked for IBM many decades ago, and one model of mainframe was sold with a blinking light, that signified... NOTHING...

I rarely look at the switch, i have already built the muscle memory to hit it without seeing it... 😁

Dogs don't have muscle memory, they need a flashing light to grab their attention.

That's absolutely not what the light is for. It is an indicator of the car’s run state. The reason for the retrofit is just as Mark said: It was in my 2021 and was decontented from the 2024 and newer models. I just wanted to bring back that feature, like I did with the second liftgate switch. 🤷‍♂️🐩
