For my driving style I find the GOM and Fords estimations pretty accurate

EPA estimate is quite accurate except during cold weather, grade change and speed above 60 mph. GOM will adjust the range after driving those conditions.

GOM is decent enough day to day. Do more advanced math if you're going to be close to the limits.

GOM works very well IMHO. I usually end up with more residual range after a ride than the initial estimation.

I’m finding the GOM to be pessimistic, which is good. My ‘69 Cadillac registered empty with 6 gallons left out of a 32 gallon tank. ??

If you drive consistently, over long periods of time, in the same weather…. the GOM can be quite accurate. I have none of these conditions. So sometimes the GOM is very optimistic. And sometimes very pessimistic. Luckily, I’m good at mathing on the go.

You used 15% battery to go 19.6 mi and the GOM went down 41 miles. Yes that's normal considering the battery was probably very cold. Setting a departure time instead of remote start would have likely reduced the % usage, but on 120V your heating is very slow. Your car is still very new so the GOM is still adjusting to the cold conditions.

In those kind of extreme conditions (car parked outside with only L1 charging, snow covered ruining aero, unplowed roads), expect only about 140 miles of total range.

^^^ Thanks understand for the extreme weather condition at the time. But even in the past 2 weeks it’s been milder and still overestimating. Wish it adjusted to driving conditions faster.

GOM is worse than useless. Didn't even work the same way twice on the SAME TRIP!

Long story short: Did a 450 mile trip home. First half of the trip the GOM was pretty accurate. When I stopped to fast charge, GPS showed I had 214 miles to home. To be safe, I charged to 234 miles on the GOM. By the time I got within 66 miles from home, the GOM showed only 50 miles of range left. Scrambled to find a charger...ended up at a Ford dealer with only a level 2 charger. Two hours added to my trip.

Going from +20 to -16 over 168 miles is ridiculous, especially when earlier on the same trip, same roads, same speeds, same temperature, it was much closer.

You’re right about not trusting the GOM. Don’t forget to include wind speed/direction and elevation changes into account.

Now you know the EV road.trip mantra. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail

A quick validation on ABRP probably would have saved you. You would have known what percentage to charge to, never a GOM number.
