Went to my first big car meet with the Mach E, in fact it's one of the biggest Cars & Coffee events in the U.S...I've got to say, I've never owned a car that has gotten so much attention. That being said, a good amount of that attention was sadly, very negative. It's sad how much hate is shown to this car, especially from fellow Mustang owners.

How many of you have experienced this sort of hate on your Mach E?
I had many to stop me to express praise for the Mach E but of the many that praised only one stated: ā€œit is not really a Mustangā€. I pointed to logo ā€œiT is a MuStAnGā€. In the end, I live in an area in which there are a number of SUVs with badges such as Porsche, Jaguar, Bentley, Maserati, etc. Just as the Mustangā€™s root was sport/coupe/convertible there were a number of other SUVs with such beginnings; cā€™est la vie.

Well, the torque boxes and cowling are not rusted out and leaking so guess it could be considered "not a real Mustang"..

I was originally part of the ā€œnot a Mustangā€ crowd in the sense that I didnā€™t think it needed the word ā€œMustangā€ in front of ā€œMach Eā€ and that it would have been just fine if they only called it the Ford Mach Eā€¦

Until I watched Fordā€™s documentary on the vehicle. The Mach E originally started out as something very different from the final production model. The initial design was so lackadaisical that it required being almost entirely redesigned from the ground up, and during the redesign they decided to create a Mustang with the Mustangā€™s entire heritage at the front and center.

What could have been:
Ford Mustang Mach-E "iTs NoT a MuStAnG!" 651306

651305.jpg

(I would never have even considered buying that)

Check out the documentary if you havenā€™t already. Itā€™s worth the 20 minutes.

I could care less what they call it, I like mine! Just don't call it an SUV, no roof racks, no towing, and low ground clearance.

Guys, youā€™re arguing in circles and over almost nothing. People like @JoeDimwit dont dislike the Mach-e. They like it. Joe owns one. He and others like him, disagree with calling it a Mustang Mach-e is all. In Joeā€™s case, that seems to be primarily because of the CUV style and 4 doors.

Itā€™s not like heā€™s claiming Ford has no right to call it a Mustang. It just doesnā€™t meet his view of the essence of a Mustang. I disagree, but I really donā€™t care all that much. It has ponies on it. It turns heads including the police officers blocking traffic to clear an accident on the belt highway today. It is a member of the Mustang family. But no, itā€™s not ā€œthe Mustang.ā€

Weā€™re all actually on the same side here, early adopters of a nicely styled, fun to drive car.

I don't get negative comments, but I HAVE noticed that other drivers tend to be more douchey and aggressive around me. Not unlike the aggressive behavior Tesla drivers have documented over the years (e.g., coal-rolling, tailgating, road rage). Some encounters may be random chance, but I strongly believe there is a contingent out there that despises the idea of EVs and they take every chance they get to give us a figurative middle finger.

When this happens, I typically just speed off and leave them in the dust. I'm sure that pisses them off even more :)

I haven't had any negative comments other than an occasional, "that's a Mustang?", or "it's not a Mustang". And I don't think those comments weren't in any way meant to be derisive. More common is "what IS that?". I didn't buy it because it was a Mustang, I bought it because it was a cool car and it wasn't a Tesla. (I have a lot of respect for Tesla, just didn't want to own one).

Some ass here in Arizona looked at my car as I was loading groceries into it and sneered, "Goddamn liberal." I just smiled and asked him how many miles per gallon he gets in his GMC pickup?
You could had told him that it was President George W. Bush who gave you the. $7,500 tax credit when you bought it.

Same thing happened to me when I got my Ecoboost Mustang. It wasn't a V8, so it could not be a "real" Mustang. Sigh!
The first 1964 Mustang didn't have a V8. In the late 1970s and early 1980s most Mustangs had 4 or 6 cylinders!
